How do they rate versus Lindy Fralin or the Fender 60's style? I am looking at the P style p'ups and have been wondering how they stack up. I want a fat chunky warm tone, and can find it in most basses, but this is a pet project giving a make over to the first bass I ever bought. Thought you guys could give me a heads up. Thank you for your time and look forward to an answer.

Thank you for your time and look forward to an answer. | How do I like them? Only enough to have put them in 2 of my last 3 basses!
The first was a Warwick Thumb NT 5. The pickups on that bass are biased towards the bridge, so the bass had a fairly thin, nasally tone. It was cool, but I wanted to fatten it up. In went the Bardens, and I was very pleased.
My latest fretted bass is a 5-string Roscoe "jazz", and it's also got Bardens in it. It's downright awesome. Check out the sticky Sound Clip thread in this forum (the one featuring me, Greg Bump). There are PLENTY of sound clips of my Roscoe. Just look for this picture:
I don't have any experience with Fralin pickups, so I can't offer much in the way of a comparison. All I can say about the Bardens is they just provide more of everything. More bottom, more mids, more treble... they're a very articulate pickup, but not overly bright. They're also quite beefy and hot.
Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions! |

I'll double check when I get back in the store on Monday. Worst case, I'll get some on order from Barden on Monday and find out what their lead time is. |
