For anyone considering a P/J, I thought I'd share some live sound clips...I absolutely LOVE the sound of this bass.
Mine is a bit different...it's an M5V with a P pickup and a preamp...as opposed to the larger P body and neck usually associated with the "P/J" term. This one is ash/maple, and it's got the Lull spec'd Duncan P and J...the latter being a linear humbucker. Oh...and it's orange.
Apologies in advance for the ambient noise in these clips. It's a HUGE ballroom, and there were numerous feedback issues which brought down the stage volume of the vox. However, for this purpose, the bass is pretty prominent, so...happy happy. Large band...six horns, three vox, full rhythm. The bass is wearing fresh DR Sunbeams, and is run into a Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 and two Bergantino HT112ER cabs. The mic is roughly 4' away from the cabs. Flat EQ on the bass, although I do play with the blend knob, depending on the tune...either centered or favoring the bridge pickup. Flat EQ on the amp, with the gain @ 7/10. Tweeters on the cabs @ 10 o'clock.
