All good. I know you're not dissing anything. That's totally understood. My point is just that, although it may feel like overstepping your bounds, if you aren't happy with one of my preamps you're doing a lot more for me by asking me to do something about it than not. I certainly don't take it personally. Keep in touch on stuff.

Oh, man, I am so bummed... I was just looking through here for some of my sound clip links, and I see that Maddrakkett's picture links no longer show up... if you haven't heard by now, Mark passed away recently... he was such a fantastic forum contributor, always helpful and polite... and at the end of his life, he was incredibly brave in the face of disease. RIP, Mark, you'll be missed.

Sorry to bring back such an old thread, but did you have to modify your Thumb at all to fit the Barden pickups??

I'm considering doing something like this to my SSII 5 string, to give it a little more balls than it currently has, but I'm not about to start routing/hacking it up to fit different pickups (I have thehurlatron's SSII that he bought from you now).

Nope, no mods required. The only trick on my 5-string Thumb was to realize that Warwick chose two 4-string bridge pickups for the bass.

I would carefully measure the pickups in your Warwick and compare them to these numbers that I just measured from Joe Barden sets:

JB4 Neck: 91mm
JB4 Bridge: 94mm
JB5 Neck: 99mm
JB5 Bridge: 104mm

So my 5-string Thumb NT took 2 of the 94mm pickups. Joe Barden doesn't sell a set of those, but you could just buy two individually and I'll make a nicer "set" price for you.

Also - Joe Bardens are passive, but my original MECs were active. So I also HAD to change my preamp for one designed for passive pickups.

Cool. I'll measure mine tonight when I get done *ahem* shampooing carpets...........Take a week off of work and I'm working harder at home than I do at my job. Gotta love women.

I've got a couple ideas in mind for it, if I decide to change it at all, but the Joe Barden pickups are at the top of the list. I really liked the results I heard on your sound clips, and the Fender Jazz I played at my local store that had them in it was freakin' amazing sounding. Like I mentioned in a previous thread, it was probably THE best sounding passive jazz I've ever played.
