Merry Christmas, Everybody!

This time of year, it's always fun to work up a Christmas tune. My two boys have learned this one on piano, and they also just finished singing it in our church's Christmas play. So I intend to bring them into the picture vocally and instrumentally sometime between now and Dec 25th. We've had lots of fun trying so far, but haven't captured anything worth publishing yet.

So for now, it's all bass! This was done with King Koa in it's current condition (Nordy NJ5FS pickups and Bartolini NTMB preamp). All bass tracks were recorded direct through my REDDI tube DI by A-Designs. I programmed both the drums and the organ inside Sonar.

Enjoy, and I hope you all have a great holiday season coming up! Merry Christmas! Happy Chanukah! Happy Festivus (for the rest of us)!

Listening for the second time as I type. Absolutely EXCELLENT, Greg! The production quality is outstanding, but I'm really loving the playing! Wonderful stuff. (And the key change for the out chorus....that just made my morning.)

Thanks, Jerry! You'll love this: I stole the arrangement from... The Wiggles.

They did it in the traditional 3/4, but I made it 12/8 to give it a half-time bluesy/gospel feel.

Kudos Greg! I may try to noodle over this today, after the big brown truck delivers my early Christmas gift!

I'll "shuttle" my thoughts from ears to fingers

Ray - just learn how to play this next piece, and you'll be all set!

I spent this morning recording one of our guitar instructors (Greg Albert) who is entering a solo jazz guitar competion. He arranged a very nice medley of Christmas tunes interspersed with some tasty guitar wackiness. I hope ya'll enjoy this one, too!

Greg Albert's Christmas Medley" (arranged by Greg Albert)

Also, Greg A. is available for lessons if anyone in the area is looking for a great all around teacher. He's got 20+ years of teaching experience, and he can play it all (rock, jazz, blues, etc.). I took lessons from him for about a year and a half, I was trying to get more guitar solo techniques into my bass playing. Hopefully, ya'll have noticed some progress I've made in that regard. Thanks to Greg (and quite a few other cats). It was a really excellent experience from my perspective.

Yesterday, Danny handed me a disk with a Hammond organ "plug-in" for Sonar. Oh, man, is this going to be a fun and useful tool!! I've just scratched the surface of it, so far I've only figured out how to automate some of the Leslie speaker cab controls (mainly the speed of the spinning). It'll also let you move the sliders to vary the tone, but I've yet to get into that yet... soon!

So here's a fresh mix with some slow and fast Leslie cab effect. That varying speed really brings a fairly boring organ part to life!

Thanks, Steve!

I wasn't gonna share this with anyone but the grandparents... but if you liked that version for pure bass-a-liciousness, you might also dig this version for overall cuteness. I got my two sons (8 & 9) to sing the verses so that I'd have a record of their squeaky voices before they change in another year or two. It's a bit pitchy (dawg), but the cuteness of it all overcomes that for me.

"Away in A Manger" (featuring Riley and Will Bump)

8-year-old Will takes the first verse, 9-year-old Riley takes the second, and then they alternate in the third. This was a hoot to record. The boys really got a kick out of hearing themselves, and they learned a little bit about rhythm and intonation along the way.

Merry Christmas Bump Master G.

Was so hoping Mrs. Crash was going to get this for me, but alas it didn't happen. Can I make $100 a month payments?
