You don't have a bass with a lacquer finish, do you?!? That's where the tone is at. LOL.

Man, this latest bass from Michael Tuttle arrived today, and it is absolutely stoopid. I'm not sure what Michael did to make these pickups, but they're noiseless and still sound very much like single coils. Not to mention the bass just looks and feels like it's brand new-in-the-box from 50 years ago.

Man, I want this bass. What's happening to me?!? I'm supposed to be moving onto 6-strings...

Michael Tuttle J-4 (3 Tone Nitro)

I think you've got the neck dimensions wrong unless that is the mother of all P-basses...

No, it's the standard 1.5" nut width, but it is the mother of all J-Basses. this bass is in the high 7 lbs range

Yeah, it's a slender neck, I really like it.

Is the 12" radius correct? Sorry to not know these things, but the neck info was not on the invoice like it usually is...

3" at the heel? We're not landing aircraft on the fretboard

That's a great looking Jazz! You seem to be building up a nice Jazz collection there.

Once you get another G&L JB in stock, you should gather up the G&L, Suhr, Tuttle and Lull and do a good old-fashioned "Jazz-off". I'd love to hear how they all sounded next to each other (maybe have an active round and a passive round). You could even add in a Roscoe with Jazz pups.

Just a thought....

Danny brought in a blast-from-the-past recording project from some earlier days of The Electric Woodshed. I'm not even sure what year the project was undertaken, but I'm guessing the late 90's.

I've added a new bass track to the first half of the tune using this new Tuttle bass, and I think it sounds right at home in this style of southern blues rock. I'll keep working to add more bass line after the current fade-out, there's plenty more to the tune.

The drums are some ancient canned drums that sound pretty awful. But Danny is on rhythm guitar, and Craig Counts is on lead and vocals. There are also some horns that I removed from the mix, just 'cause they're not so hot. It needs some organ or something. I'll probably finish the bass track, redo the drums track, and then either add some organ or some better horns. We'll see where it goes. But for now, you get to hear this killer bass. I REALLY am loving it. The more I think about it, the more I think there's a 4-string in my future...

"I Can't Believe" (Craig Counts, Dan Dunlap)

^^ Oh, and that was recorded direct through my REDDI tube DI. Both pickups were wide open, and the passive tone was rolled off just a hair.

Yeah, it's technically an original... but there not much that's original about it.

Ain't the blues great?!?

I've finished the bass part and started updating the drum parts for this "new" Shed tune. I'm probably 60-70% done with the drums, it still needs more/better fills and a slightly altered beat for the outro.

Man, I am LOVING this bass!!! First, I started just appreciating the super comfortable 4-string neck, but now I'm falling in love with the passive Alder/RW tone. It just screams "Electric Woodshed" to me. I might be done for on this one, it may not be on the market by the end of next week...

"I Can't Believe (Mix 2)" (Craig Counts)

And here's the nekkid bass track in all it's glory. Pardon the playing, but please do admire the killer tone!

"I Can't Believe (Mix 2, Bass Only)" (bass played by moi)
