Alder, with a maple board....can't wait for sound clips of this one. (Hint, cough, hint.) |

Here it is recorded direct through my Alembic F1X w/ blend centered, slight bass boost (20%?), treble flat: "Rocket Music Video Intro Bass"
And like a Reeses PB cup, these are two great tastes that taste great together: "Rocket Music Video Intro Bass And Drums"
Then I added back all the gravy parts (acoustic & electric guitars and authentic NASA countdown) to make the final cut. The guitar is more whacked out now - I went with a Quad Phaser instead of a simple Flanger, and I love it! "Rocket Music Video Intro" | |

You know, sometimes when you try to merge the good from two different things, the result can stink (any gearheads remember the Chevy 307 engine....designed for the performance of the 327 and the fuel economy of the 283, but in reality failing badly on both?). However, mating an alder body and a maple board on a Jazz bass totally seems to be one of those chocolate + peanut butter type of deals. Delicious...no matter where you take your bite. The sizzle, focus, and immediate attack is there, but so is the fatness, nice upper mid grind, and even a bit of warmth to the tone. Contrast this with an ash body & rosewood board...which to my ears is like that 307.
Thanks again for the clip, but not for the renewed sense of "I want!" for a Suhr J. |

I'm almost to the point where I'd settle for a set of 5-string Humphrey pickups from him. Pair that with his 3-band preamp, and King Koa would become friggin' Emperor Koa... |

It's weaving them in with the woods that creates the mojo. I do totally dig his ability to maintain that vintage Fender tone, but with extra sizzle, bite, and oomph. |
