K-Wiring is when they add the single coil mode to the pickup mode switch. In addition to the usual two settings (series and parallel humbucker modes), there's a third "single coil" mode added. So the usual 2-way switch becomes a 3-way switch.

Some sound clips of this show off the single coil option through one of the new Genz Streamliners would sell this pretty quickly!!

Blueburst is, without a doubt, the sweetest G&L color!

Greg,
It's perfect the way it is. My circa 1990 L2000 was the finest 4 string I ever owned. Bought it from Joe ( Imagine that.)

Love the binding.
Hey some clips would be nice. I'd really like to hear all 3 modes side by side.

Hopefully, this one survives long enough for me to do some recording with a Streamliner and/or the MAX 9.2 on Thursday. If not... then I guess I might need to order some more G&L's.

Got this one recorded this morning! The signal chain was:

L-2000 -> Streamliner 900 -> UBER Quad Cab -> MXL Genesis Mic -> M-Audio FastTrack 85 USB Interface

I played the same riff repeatedly while stepping through the various pickup settings on the bass. I did them all with the bass's preamp on. Here's the order you hear in the clip:

Series | Centered
Series | Neck
Series | Bridge
Parallel | Centered
Parallel | Neck
Parallel | Bridge
Single Coil | Centered
Single Coil | Neck
Single Coil | Bridge

Here's the clip with the guitar in the mix:
"L-2000 Clip"

And here's the bass part solo'd:
"L-2000 Clip" (Bass Only)

In person, there's a pretty significant volume difference between the series, parallel and single coil settings. I normalized that out, though, so that one setting didn't sound better than another just because it's louder.

I'm just proud I was able to get all the settings straight while doing the clip. This was a single take with me flipping switches as fast as I could

Yeah, The L series basses have a pretty distinctive sound. They're very punchy with a wicked attack on the front of the notes.

I think the single coil setting (the non-standard one that the "K-Wiring" option gets you) is my favorite. I'd get bugged by the noise that comes when you solo the neck and bridge pickups, but it sure sounds nice...
