New Arrival 8/24/2010 - Roscoe SKB Signature V

Here's an incredible new Roscoe. This one is completely macked out from the incredible Koa top to the Wenge sapwood fretboard to the Wenge wedge neck... WOW!!!

Roscoe SKB Signature V

And here's a first - I actually recorded a quick sound clip before I even took the pictures!

Roscoe 6192 Demo

That's this bass through my rig (Alembic F1X preamp -> Crest CA6 power amp) into a Bergatino HT112ER that was mic'd with an MXL Genesis tube condenser mic. The first part is with everything flat and the blend centered, then I solo'd the neck pickup, and finally I solo'd the bridge pickup.

I don't know that it's the "white wenge", it's just some sapwood that came along with a batch of wenge we processed recently, and we thought it looked fantastic with the koa tops, so we went with it!

Glad you dig it man!

Finally got the chance to listen to the clip thru decent speakers. Goodness. This bass sounds as good as it looks, and it looks darn good.

In all seriousness, it plays better than it looks or sounds - which is saying a LOT.

I get pretty spoiled around here, being Mr. QC here at the Worldwide Headquarters of Nirvana for Bassists, pretty much everything plays, sounds, and looks unbelievably good.

This one stands out a bit, which is really unusual...

I haven't spent a great deal of time with the bass because I immediately hung it in the most inaccessible place on my display wall. With these looks, it would be the first one picked up if I put it somewhere where it could be picked up.

But my quick 10 minute impression was basically me being blown away by the tone of it. I need to go reach and pull it down and pay closer attention to the playability again, Gard has me curious.

Color me curious (mauve, today only) on the playability. I mean, is anything on the planet better than an SKB fiver? Seriously. What is it about this one that stands out?

I laughed out loud at Greg's comments about positioning the bass. Definitely a great call!

Interesting. It's got the wenge wedge neck (like my two personal basses), so it does feel more familiar to my hands than the usual Roscoe neck. That may be what Gard is feeling, too. There's just a slightly different texture on the back of the neck that my left hand can feel. The 5-string Wenge wedge neck just feels like home to me 'cause that's what I spend most of my gig time on.

This neck also has a bit more meat on it than mine. It's a pretty slight difference, but I can feel a bit more meat left on the back of the neck near the edges. It's slightly rounder, slightly less flat than my own necks.

Other than that, the action is righteously low. For someone with a soft touch like me, this one is setup for speed.

All that said, I'm still pretty knocked out by the tone. This bass is a BEAST!!

As a matter of fact, yes, there is. Two things that are better, actually----my Century 5 and my Century 6.

In all seriousness, though, I have yet to own or play a Roscoe that played bad. If this one does, in fact, stand out from the crowd, well, I'm baffled. Don't know how you can get much better than what is normally what I'd consider perfect.
