I keep forgetting how incredible these basses are. John really puts some special sauce in his electronics, I think. His basses have ass for days.
I'll do a clip of this one pretty quickly, hopefullly by tomorrow...
I also have another one on the way that will be pretty similar. The finish on that one will be Chili Pepper Red. Slurp!! Suhr Classic J (Trans Amber Burst) |

The only thing about the 3-band is the 3 EQ knobs have to be off the control plate, John's not big on stacking I guess. Anyway, for basses that have more vintage sort of styling (i.e. a chrome control plate, typical Fender colors, etc.), I usually go with the 2-band pre just so all the controls are on the plate. In keeping with the look more than anything else...

I remain either very sad or very happy that he does not offer a five-string bass. The particular emotion depends primarily on how many times I look at the brand on your website. |

This clip was done in my usual "bass orchestra" way. All bass tracks were recorded direct through my REDDI tube DI by A-Designs. In the complete mix, I don't pull any punches with using EQ, compression, FX, panning, etc. I'll do whatever it takes to make the complete mix sound as good as possible. But when I break out the individual tracks, all that stuff is removed and you are hearing the bass straight off the REDDI. "13065 Boogie" (Complete Mix) "13065 Boogie" (Bass Line Only - both pickups, slight bass & mid boost) "13065 Boogie" (Chords Only - all bridge pickup EQ flat, plucked very close to the bridge. Hear the single coil noise?) "13065 Boogie" (Intro Lick Only - both pickups, slight bass & mid boost) "13065 Boogie" (Lead Only - mostly neck pickup, flat EQ)

Being a 5-guy, I wish it had a B string and a few more frets... but I'd almost take it as is just to have this tone.
No word on a Suhr 5-string. It's on the long term planning horizon for Suhr, but that unfortunately doesn't really mean anything. They've got LOTS of new products on the long term plan. |

FWIW, I've got a Lull that fits the category of, "It sounds so darn good I don't care about the low B." I've yet to hear a Suhr that I don't really dig, and this one is no exception. Nice! |

For the 1100th time...thank goodness he doesn't make five-string basses. The absolute last thing I need is another bad-ass J bass, but then again, seven days ago I said that the last thing I need is another Roscoe. |
