...now, if you're smart, you'll find a way to get those design students to come in and help out with the retro!!!
...tell 'em it's "OJT", I mean, how can you be a good designer, if you haven't actually done the work, you can't understand the actual results as well, right????
And, since it'll be warm, and the HVAC isn't working well yet, well...they'll have to dress...appropriately...

I really think your concept of a boutique store and a beginner/student store is going to be a super business model!
And yeah...
Snag one of those design students as an intern.
All the best to the best in the business!! |

I'm tearing apart our computer network as we speak, basically adding a machine that will become the central accounting machine for both locations (it will reside at the new spot).
The unfortunate result of that activity is that we are currently unable to take money here in the store (cash, credit, debit, whatever). I hope nobody gets caught in the inconvenience of this, but I should be back up and running by tomorrow AM. Our website is still functioning if you absolutely, positively HAVE to give me money today. And I'm sure someone out there fits that description (yeah, I'm talking about you, Todd!).
It's no skin off my back if you can work through the website, and I certainly do appreciate your willingess to work around my technical hurdles here in the short term...

I had on my Rocket t-shirt the other day and someone asked me some questions about it.
I told them that Rocket Music was my favorite music store but that I had actually never gone there. They seem to think that was a bit weird!
Duh!!! Can you say internet?
I guess that I'll have to go to both the boutique store and the beginner/student store on my first trip to Blacksburg VA. |

Danny and I were able to put in a full day of demo work on Sunday. In the new showroom, we tore the flooring out and pulled down most of the drop ceiling. I've got some before and after photos that I'll share tomorrow. It's a hoot.
We had our new guy Zach in the store for his first full time day today. Danny and I were hoping to get over to the new spot to do some more work today, but Danny was hung up at the current spot until 3 or so, and I didn't make it out until 6:30. Still, Danny tore up the last of the showroom floor, and I came behind and carted it all away.
We're really winging this whole thing, and it's fun to see how our concepts are evolving. A lot of the things that we thought we wanted to do right away are being pushed out or abandoned all together, and we're just really digging into the here and now. All of which means that the Phase II studio buildout might just happen at the same time as the showroom buildout. We were thinking about doing it in separate phases when it was just on paper, but now that we're tearing stuff up and having to make some firm decisions... well, it's just a different perspective. Should be an exciting coupla/few months! |

Just as a refresher, here's how the showroom started:
And here's how it was as of last night:
All the flooring and ceiling debris has either left the building or been piled up in the warehouse for now.
Next up, we tear down the showroom's suspended ceiling frame and the hideous paneling on the walls...
