That's awesome that your father in-law was willing to help out. Everyone needs pro carpenter in the family. Those guys tend to come in quite handy!
That's going to be a good looking store when it's completed! I love the high ceilings. You'll need a Roscoe and PRS wall (floor to ceiling)! No, not the same wall but their own separate wall! |

Thanks for sharing this with us, Greg. I already know how this is going to turn out - insanely awesome - but getting to see the "during" pics is incredible. The scrapbook on this entire effort is going to be a great coffee table read. |

I'm heading out to Seattle later this summer, and I am definitely planning to schedule a visit to see Mike Lull in his shop in Bellevue. I think he'll find some space on our new walls for sure...
Does that wall opening look familiar, Jerry?
Yeah, I'm really excited to be able to track our progress like this in photos... although one nagging concern was that I was basically putting out incriminating evidence that someone from the town might see and then come down on us about a building permit (or lack thereof). That's no longer an issue - one of the town guys saw the insulation truck there today and pulled into our driveway long enough to see that something was definitely going on... I threw together a building permit app real quick, so now we should be on the up and up. Everyone please keep your fingers crossed that we don't get told to put an elevator in a 1-story building!! Or more likely, that we have to install a couple new ADA compliant bathrooms. What's $15-20K? |

And, coming from someone that knows all-too-well about the permitting process and the consequences of skirting local regs....good for you in addressing it now. What may be painful up-front could be absolutely excruciating down the road. As husbands, we may prefer the forgiveness-over-permission method, but it's much more risky as property owners. |

I don't even have a set of power squeezers, or a terlet that's so high off the ground my feet dangle as if I were trapped in Alice's Wonderland.
Forget the bathroom. Just make sure there's an accessable seat mid showroom.
BTW, Over your entry way should read "Launch Your Dreams in 10....9....8....7...."

We'll have to cover it with some fire-retardant paint since it will be left exposed like this, but no biggie. We intended to paint it black anyway, just takes a pricier paint.
And our job today was unloading 100 linear ft of 4'x12' pallet rack parts. We'll start piecing the racks together tomorrow so we'll have some nice storage for amps, cabs, etc. |

I framed in the old doorway. That'll get drywalled over and make our new grand opening the only way into the back from the showroom.
And, yeah, I know. We need to clean up that electrical mess in a bad way! All that was hidden away up in the dropped ceiling that we pulled down. As Danny likes to say: "One disaster at a time!"
Danny found the strength to run to Lowe's, grab a bunch of mailbox paraphernalia, and get it all installed in the twilight. I've been wondering why we haven't been receiving any bills until I noticed our mailman drive right by us and deliver mail to our neighbor. Mailbox!?! Duh!!
If you put your ear right next to your monitor, you can actually hear Danny thinking "Are you really putting a picture of this on TalkBass?!?".
Yes. Yes I am. |

No bills! That's one way to lower the overhead.

Not to take you off-topic, but in comparison to many other jurisdictions, you...and your contractor...got off lucky. Along with the stoppage, you could've been fined, and your contractor rather heavily penalized. In fact, from a liability standpoint, I'm kinda' surprised your contractor was willing to do the job without pulling the necessary permit(s). Are they located in Blacksburg? FYI, if not...or if they're not already doing so, don't be surprised if they're also required to pay any business licensing fees/taxes before work can start back up again. |

Hopefully our guy can smooth things over if there are any ruffled feathers downtown. I don't think there are, and there aren't really any on our side either (yet!). All we have now is the fear of the unknown... how many bathrooms, elevators and kiddy pools are we going to be forced to put in to bring the building up to current code?!? Hopefully none, but I'm not all that optimistic. |

We needed to make some trash runs, anyway. | You mean to say the government is standing in the way of progress?
I've never heard of such a thing!!!

Cool!
I can bring my grand kids and they can swim while I try out new gear!
Things are progressing quite well Gregory! You guys will in there in no time!
Talk about painting the ceilings and duct work black, it's a amazing how things just disappear up there when you paint everything black.
Shoot, if you do that and dim the lights, you can open a French or Italian restaurant in the corner of the store! That could work out good for us married guys. We could take out wives out for a romantic dinner and buy a new Roscoe at the same time!
If you put it on the same bill we might be able to disguise the purchase of the Roscoe by claiming that it was just a big tip! |
