Today was a good photography day. This bass just seemed to want to make a nice picture. Some days I have to fight it more than others, but this was an easy subject... |

Nothing to do but sit down and try to figure out some of his stuff. I'm only through the intro, but so far I've learned a couple new licks that I'm digging pretty hard! His rhythmic sensibilities are quite different from my own, so it was a chore for me to pick out one or two of these phrases...
Anyway, since this red Century-3006 needed recording, I used it for my study purposes.
Here's the entire mix complete with EQ, panning, etc. Don't judge the bass's tone too much from this, I had to thin the lead tracks out a bit since the main melody is just an octave removed from the bass line for most of the tune. Maybe I need a 7 string?!? "Do You Feel Like We Do" (entire mix)
Here are the raw tracks. All EQ, panning, etc. has been removed, so this is really what the bass sounds like. "Do You Feel Like We Do" (bass track - slight neck bias) "Do You Feel Like We Do" (lead track - all bridge PUP & plucked close to bridge) "Do You Feel Like We Do" (harmony track - all bridge PUP & plucked close to bridge)
All of the bass tracks were recorded direct through my REDDI tube DI by A-Designs. |

I meant to come in today and record further into the song, but I got sidetracked on the production side. I pissed away a few hours watching youtube videos about various production tips, and I learned quite a bit. Can you guys tell a big difference between this mix and the previous one? Or am I just polishing turds?
You hopefully hear greater dynamics (the modulated second half of the intro really lifts nows), and hopefully there's greater clarity in the bass and kick drums parts... "Do You Feel Like We Do" (2nd mix) |

I haven't thought about that tune in many years.
I love the top on that 3006 and the Pau ferro finger board just kills with that red tint. Very nice!

I am sure it won't last long in B'burg |

"Do You Feel Like We Do" (2nd mix) | I dig it. My only critique would be vibrato (or lack thereof). As a reformed guitard, wringing the notes is part of what differentiates the two instruments. Pretty much every last note of the phrase could (should?) have vibrato. Just a bit of bendy action, even with e harmonized notes. It helps to make it breathe a bit more.
