I totally agree. I listened to some guitar dude play it on youtube, and it was completely devoid vibrato... it sucked. So I tried but didn't quite get it on the first half. The second half is better (when I got up on the skinnier strings and could move them more easily)...

I find vibrato to be a bit of a challenge on a fretted bass. Jimmy and I talked about that a bit in our lesson. He does ok, I need to keep working :-)

Run a set of .40-.95 strings. Vibrato is easy, and in fact the challenge is to watch intonation. I ran those for awhile, now have .40-.100 on the Foderas as a compromise. I have typical .45-.105 on the Sadowsky and I can do vibrato but I have to work a bit harder. Then again, I have decades of muscle memory ingrained pushing notes around. Anthony actually has given me grief about that

I love a progress photo! This order became a special order for Alex late in the game. He saw it in the "on order" section of my site, and asked to change the scale to 34" and change a costmetic detail or two. Roscoe was game for it, so I was, too.

Here's the raw top, and then there's the body with the sealer coat applied. A few finish coats, and it'll be glossy as all get out!

Wow! Very nice.
That almost looks like spalted maple.

Very symmetrical for buckeye burl! Kind of has that "Warp speed Mr. Solo" look to it.

OK so I've been found out!

I was a huge Star Trek fan and have watched Star Wars many, many times though. I guess I just didn't pay close enough attention!

Maybe Mr. Solo was Joe's Sci-Fi name?

And here's a fresh progress photo of the body. Roscoe is throwing down some mean Buckeye Burl basses for me lately!! I love it.

More buckeye pics! I love it. This one is still pre-sold to Alex, so it's not available. But it sure is purty! Should ship on Monday.

Here's the finished bass! It's packed up and headed straight to Alex from the Roscoe shop, so I won't get to see/play it.

Roscoe Century-3006 (Buckeye Burl)

Thumbs up

Great looking bass! That wenge finger board really goes well with the Buckeye burl/spalted looking top.

Congrats Alex!

I just received some updated progress pics from Gard on two of these bass orders. They're coming right along and should be in my hands shortly!

Roscoe SKB-3005 (XQM, Cocobolo)

Roscoe Century Standard Plus 5 (Bubinga, BEM)

Man, that Bubinga and Birdseye maple Century Standard Plus is really nice! Maybe I should have a 5 in my house again. Just too many nice basses out there.

No, Steve. Not a fretted 5. You need a fretless 5 or 6 in the house. Then, I can drive to GF and buy it from you in a month or two when you decide to sell it.

It will benefit both of us.

Wow! This one totally rocks my world! I love the large water drop quilt. Coco fingerboard and mahogany body too.

Like that SKB3005 fretless in Greg's shop right now....

What I need is to stay away from Roscoe threads...
