The Pre-Sold G&L Fretless on RocketMusic.net

I saw this and was wondering how it sounds. It looks great. Are there any sound clips floating around of one of these? If the the buyer backs out let me know

That is one of my favorite colors. The matching headstock always makes the bass look complete.

I definitely prefer other finishes, but I really wanted a matching pair. Part of the thought was that it would make the transition to fretless a little easier (I wanted a similar look for reference). Funny, I haven't picked up the fretted since this arrived. And yes, the headstock was worth the extra coin.

One little nitpick I noticed last night - The side dots on the fingerboard aren't lined up. They're in the right spots note wise, but 3 and 7 are higher on the board than 5 and 9, and the 2 dots at 12 aren't lined up! It's really small, but I tend to notice stuff like that.

The case isn't my favorite. It's just a generic case (form fitted of course), with a G&L plate screwed on to it. The old ones were nice molded plastic with the big G&L logo on it. I wished they stayed with those. More of a personal touch.

Very nice! Really like the matching headstock on the fretless.

I really, really wish I could handle the necks on the G&L 5 strings. Love the sound, can't stand the fat, round neck profile. Otherwise, I would have one by now. (I have the same issue with Spectors, too)

I really love the look of these basses, especially the fretless. I have never owned a G&L, but wouldn't hesitate for a second if I needed a good solid rock bass. I am surprised more of them are not sold.

I have an older G&L 2500 and the dots don't line up either. Do they use a jig or do it by hand?

LOL. They'd better fire their jig maker if they're not doing it by hand!

LOL!

I don't believe there is a color in their line up that I don't like. I would take anything they have. Haven't seen the new margarita color in person yet. But from pics it looks real nice.

I like their necks myself. Don't seem to big to me.

Does a quarter saw neck change the tone of the instrument? I have noticed people getting fretless necks with the quarter saw. Is it a good idea to get your fretless with the quarter saw neck?

You generally hear about folks using quartersawn lumber to make a stiffer neck, one that is more stable. I imagine a stiffer neck might actually sound a little different, too, so maybe it does effect the tone slightly?

I've heard this before. I thought the same thing when I first got the fretted L2500 (2001). This seems slimmer - almost Stingray-ish. Especially at the 1-5 fret range.

I opted for quarter sawn for stability. Living in New England, it's hot and wet in the summer and cold and dry n the winter. As for tone, couldn't tell you.
