Part of the thought was that it would make the transition to fretless a little easier (I wanted a similar look for reference). Funny, I haven't picked up the fretted since this arrived. And yes, the headstock was worth the extra coin.
One little nitpick I noticed last night - The side dots on the fingerboard aren't lined up. They're in the right spots note wise, but 3 and 7 are higher on the board than 5 and 9, and the 2 dots at 12 aren't lined up! It's really small, but I tend to notice stuff like that.
The case isn't my favorite. It's just a generic case (form fitted of course), with a G&L plate screwed on to it. The old ones were nice molded plastic with the big G&L logo on it. I wished they stayed with those. More of a personal touch.

I really, really wish I could handle the necks on the G&L 5 strings. Love the sound, can't stand the fat, round neck profile. Otherwise, I would have one by now. (I have the same issue with Spectors, too)

I don't believe there is a color in their line up that I don't like. I would take anything they have. Haven't seen the new margarita color in person yet. But from pics it looks real nice.
I like their necks myself. Don't seem to big to me.

I imagine a stiffer neck might actually sound a little different, too, so maybe it does effect the tone slightly? |

(I have the same issue with Spectors, too) | I've heard this before. I thought the same thing when I first got the fretted L2500 (2001). This seems slimmer - almost Stingray-ish. Especially at the 1-5 fret range.

Living in New England, it's hot and wet in the summer and cold and dry n the winter. As for tone, couldn't tell you.
