It's always my fault.

If that wasn't so accurate, I'd have a complaint. Okay, instead of, "I'm damn sexy," how about this? "Suck it, Trebek."

Hopefully these are the last images that I'll take with my trusty but ancient Canon DS6041 Digital Rebel. Say hello to my new little friend, a Canon D6. In addition to stills, this one will apparently shoot some mighty fine video, too. I can't wait to get into that part of it.

Great choice Greg.. PLEASE remember to get good glass for that thing...a full frame 20 mp will show everything good and everything bad ..if you use crap glass it will show..The kit lens will be ok but youll want to get something with a little more room to work. Id say a nice prime 50mm 1.4 would do the trick! They can be found used for good prices.

edit: it looks like the kit may actually be better than Canon's typical setup... 105mm at 4.0 should be nice.

Not sure about video.. I would def. look around a bit as many of these DSLR cameras with video DO NOT offer auto focus..meaning someone will have to be filming and adjusting on the fly...also the video files should be huge so remember to get a nice big memory card.

Yeah, I only ordered the body. The kit lenses are usually crap, and I already have a decent collection of lenses anyway. I've got a non-zoom 50mm/1.4 lens that does a nice job. And this camera will autofocus in video mode, though the pricier D5's will not.

Initial thoughts. The D60 was well worth the upgrade. I LOVE being able to preview my images on a laptop BEFORE I trudge from the back of the warehouse (where I shoot) all the way to my desk on the other side of the building. No more shooting 6 shots of the same subject and praying that at least one turned out in focus. LOL. Me Happy.

I'm now upgrading Photoshop as we speak so I can continue to process raw files. Thanks, Adobe/Canon, for the lack of forward compatibility. Oh, well. I hope they buy themselves something pretty.

Here's the first finished product from my new camera! Photoshop unfortunately won't take the "raw" files from the D60 just yet, so I'm hoping Adobe comes out with an update sometime soon. As it is, I used one of Canon's converters to take the raw file to a jpeg, and then I used Photoshop to massage the picture a little bit. I've lost a lot of control because of that, but I think the improved quality of the picture that I'm starting with more than offsets that. Once I get raw functionality back in Photoshop, look out!!

Here's a high res version just to give you an idea of what I'm working with now. And here's the body shot.

Bah! I'm an idiot. I just needed to make Photoshop check for updates (which there was one for "camera raw 7.3"), and now the camera raw stuff should work... I take back every ugly thought I had about Adobe.
