Would a set of Joe Barden replacement pickups interest you? If so, you might want to let me or Barden know that. They've made some prototypes that a few guys have tried and loved, but they're trying to guage if there is sufficient market to make these an official offering...

But when I do a theater gig, or a blues/jazz gig, or a gig with alot of EWF or Tower of Power, it is usually my Warmoth P-Bass or my '72 jazz.. I sure would love to have some Joe Barden pups in either one of those basses! |

Wouldn't want to solo it and bend notes on the high frets, as if the strings get too past the polepieces the sound cuts drastically(that's of course where the Barden's have a huge advantage), but then, soloing a neck pickup that's almost touching the neck and going for the high stuff isn't something I imagine doing often!
I bet the RickenBarden's are utterly kickass, though.
The only issue would be, as far as I can see, is Rickenbacker fans can get pretty dang agressive in their anti-aftermarket parts agenda, quite like Ernie Ball fans.

I don't know if it'd be much of an issue though, as both Duncan & Bartolini make replacement pickups for Rickys, and I can't imagine them keeping a model of pickup running if there wasn't a good enough market for them.

I purchased a set of these and they arrived last week Joe Barden Engineering Introduces Ric 4001/4003 Bass Pickups - Premier Guitar Joe Barden Engineering (Manassas, Virginia)
I haven't installed them yet....and I admit I have a fear of doing it...but as much as I love my Ric 4003, I hate the noise and living through my EH Hum Debugger %100 of the time...which I have to give a lot of credit to by the way, its a fine tool in itself imho.
The thing is, while I get the Ric purist thing and even one of my favorite musicians...Al Cisneros...has said anytime you mod a Ric you seem to lose the vibe. I did stop playing bass for awhile and was a Telecaster freak for a couple of years and I loved the Bardens in many of my formerly owned Telecasters. I have a lot of faith in this company...and my dealings with them have been great and their commitment and enthusiasm for these Ric pickups has been outstanding.
I expect to drop my Ric off at my tech for the change and a setup in the next few weeks. Its also good to know this is easily reversible with absolutely no problem or downside if I want to return to stock.
