Nope, but I am sorta treated like one.
Like I said, it's a REALLY good gig. Pays great, play really good venues in the winter, and outdoors (street dances and festivals) all summer long. Travel in a fancy 42' motor coach in the spring, summer, and fall.
The band has been around for quite a few years, and has worked into being one of the more requested bands in central Minnesota. I just got lucky enough to land the bass player position when it became available a few months ago.
I'm still deciding whether to go with a Standard Plus, a Custom, or if I should buy that SKB that Greg has. OR, if I should go all out on my last order, and get a Signature.....Because really, what the hell else would I possibly need, if I add a fretless to the mix of what I already have?

You gotta be a speshul kinda crazy to live through THAT kind of winter....go right ahead.
I might end up like you & Ryan, and think BL is actually beer, with a winter like that! |

Crappy as the music scene is in these parts, it's been years since we've even had a sound guy for anything other than a festival sort of date. Simple little touches like effects on the vocals just don't get done when you run sound from the stage... I miss having a good sound guy, both for the labor savings and for the quality of the live sound. And don't get me started on lights. I've forgotten what it's like to play under anything other than static lighting. Sigh... |

Maybe we should move to ND and see what happens... |

That was our first gig together----new female singer, new bass player, and new drummer. So there are a lot of bugs to be worked out yet, but it's coming along.
Casey, the sound guy, is an absolute joy to work with. He's a true pro, and one hard working mofo. I worked with him in a different band years ago, so I was stoked when I joined this band and get to work with him again. We also have a couple different guys that alternate coming with him to help with setup and tear down, but he takes care of all the technical stuff----sound and lighting. That was only part of the light show, he should have it all up and running next weekend.

IME people are usually pretty particular about spacing on 5+ string basses such that if one works for you the other wouldn't. Maybe you're not that sensitive to it. |

The new fretted is going to church tomorrow.

I was definitely going for a 5 string fretted, and got a nice one. I guess that I set it up to nicely because a good buddy (Lionel) wanted it more than I did.
His Roscoe 6 was just too nice to pass up. I played a Elrick 6 with 19mm spacing for 6-7 months (up until a few months ago) and had no issues going between it and the Roscoe 6 with 18.3. And a Roscoe at 19mm and 18.3 play more alike than an Elrick and Roscoe.
The ash/maple Roscoe sounds very different than my signature. Especially after dropping the Demeter in it. Really a nice contrast for my recordings.
Worse case is I trade or sale one of the 6'ers down the road. I learned a long time ago to never say never. It's all fun! Quote:

It must be just the angle that the picture was taken but those bass bodies appear to be shaped different. |
