I am a spoiled brat with three awesome Roscoes, two with the Bart pre and one with the Aggie. The pickups are Bartolini/Roscoe with my first Roscoe, Bart Classics with the second, and the Bart JJ (3 of them, actually) with my third.
I hear you guys speaking about single coil, etc. etc. etc. What are the pickups on my basses? What does less (single) vs more (dual) equate as far as sound is concerned?
Muchas gracias -
Surely some day there will be a fourth Roscoe. I know myself well enough to prognosticate this fact and the one that says it will not end at four either....I'm only in my late 30's..... Perhaps when #4 comes along I'll give the Pope pre a try. What am I looking at as far as $$ is concerned (and since I already admitted I am a technical fool, I'd have to pay for having it installed as well).
Stefan

....are these pickups passive or active? I wanna say they are all (Barts, Classics, JJ) passive? And what exactly is the difference?

Wide open straight to the jack or just vol/vol if that's easiest. I bet that alone will sell you on them, then you can think about adding a preamp. |

Stefan | Single Coil Vs Dual Coil- Single Coil is like your classic J pickups. Dual is a newer word for hum bucker- two single coils side by side. This would be your barts and BCs in your roscoes.
Generally:
Singles are more open, snappier, more traditional.
Duals more full, thicker, less highs.
Most Roscoes have Duals in them, sounds like you have some of both.
With the Pope pre, you can switch duals to single coil mode, only using one pickup from each set, usually the outer one and get closer to a single coil sound. Of course, DC are usually wound different (less) than a true SC so it's not exact.
I use this option on my Pope Equipped Fodera to go from a fuller tone to snappier tone, especially for slap. See my comments above for what I would hope with my Roscoe from the SC/DC switch.
I'm grossly simplifying things. |

... and that SKB 3005 would sound very sweet with a Pope Flex core loaded in it! |

That mac ebony board is incredible though. That's part of the reason I don't want to sell it as I'll never get another like it. |
