I just spoke with Mike this morning to finalize my electronics layout. He says he'll have it done and out the door to me by the end of today! Yee-haw.
It should arrive late next week, I hope...
It's an M5V loosely bassed on Geddy Lee's Fender Jazz. Mine will be 5-strings and a dark trans-black instead of solid black. I've also got a few pickguard choices coming so I can choose my favorite (or change as the mood strikes): Black Pearloid, White Pearloid, and Tortoiseshell...
I did the black blocks on a maple board, color matched headstock, stainless steel frets and the Bart NTMB preamp. I went a little overboard with the controls, only because I want them to match King Koa's flexibility with the mids. The controls will be:
- Vol/Blend
- PTC/Mid
- Treble/Bass
- 3-way mini-toggle switch to change the mid frequency |

Merry Christmas. |

Personally, I keep eyeing the V4 spalted maple, alder/RW #4054... I'd really like to hear a post of that one. |

I tell ya, that CAR M4V that Jerry grabbed really had me by the short hairs. As soon as I placed the order for my Ash/Maple M5V, I started questioning myself - do I really want an Alder/RW M4V?!?
What a nightmare having a bass on order, and seriously considering something radically different. I guess it's just one more way that I'm way lucky - if the 5 comes in and I still find myself wanting a 4, I can always sell the 5 (assuming I haven't taken it out and gigged it, of course). I love my job!!

I love that spalted maple/alder/rw bass. I'm now used to 1.5" nut on a 4-banger. Unfortunately my budget isn't pretty at the moment. Turns out having four basses on order all get finished around the same time isn't such a good idea |

I love my job!! | I can totally make you feel better. I ordered my orange bass...my first ever custom order...expecting/hoping it'd be THE ash/maple J. A month in, my local store gets a Lull in stock that is literally THE THE THE ash/maple J. You guys know me enough that we can skip the middle nonsense. I own both, and the orange one, in P/J form, is a tremdous animal in its own right...just another flavor of extremely delicious. And the cool thing for us fans of Rocket....Pete has the twin to my J...two 3TB ash/maple dogs, one on each coast. . I just have this feeling your black one is going to be amazing.
And that CAR four-stringer...is ferocious. It's been gigged twice so far, and is joining me for NYE at the Ritz. That bass truly makes you feel okay about leaving the low B at home.
Ultimately, I'd be very surprised if your next bass isn't an alder/rosewood J. I have no regrets having both flavors in my arsenal, and in fact my five-string (CAR too) is different enough from the four-banger that I can use them in different situations. These basses are truly amazing, and just like Roscoes, they each have a lot of individual character on top of the foundation of "darn good."

I have one more in the works (Skjold) and I'll see if that floats my boat, but for whatever reason alder body is really what resonates with me. Well, that and chambered walnut but that's another story. |

The two tone burst finnish is striking. I Have two old Fender jazz basses that although they don't get played that much anymore I still dig playing them when I do pick them up, so going with a four string of this calibre isn't an issue. I've never played a bass with Fralin's so I'm curious to hear this bass.. So yeah, post a clip or two and lets talk. |
