Strings for Roscoe 5's & 6's

Under the radar, I've been building up my stock on string sets that will work on Roscoe 5- and 6-string basses. These sets also might be useful on 34" basses that string through the body. Anyway, I've got most of my target sets in stock finally, there are just a few more sets I want to get in the short term (namely the SIT Rock Bright Nickels XL scale for 5's and 6's, the strings I use and would thus HIGHLY recommend).

NOTE: DR's standard length strings work on 35" scale Roscoe, but standard SIT strings DO NOT!!! I'm having to special order XL length strings from SIT. Please be aware of that if you look at SIT strings eleswhere.

I'll eventually get all these sets up on my site so they can be ordered directly, but for now I'll just list what I have and what they cost. If you see it here, I have it (or at least I did when I wrote this post) and it's just a PM away!

Please let me know if you don't see a set you want, and I'll try to get my hands on them. And please also let me know if any of my prices are out of line. String pricing can be strange...

Our standard shipping policy applies: FREE shipping on orders over $100, but we have to charge $7-8 on orders under $100.

I am currently using the Marcus Miller set, and really like them so far. Very articulate.

Looking forward to trying out those SITs!

Greg,
as per our conversation yesterday, the SIT's for a 6 string are listed as stainless. Are you saying nickel 6 string sets for my LG 3006 and possibly my Century Standard are coming soon? If so, I am very anxious to purchase. Cheers. Pete

Yeah, I've only got SIT stainless sets at the moment. I ordered nickel XL 6 string sets, but I received 4 string sets instead... harumph... I'll get the nickel 6's on order again very soon.

I still highly recommend the DR Black Beauties on Roscoe basses. For some reason, these strings really seem to work well with them (for me, anyway).

Greg,

Can you get SIT to "Gauge Match" the Roscoe stock strings? I'm looking to try a set of the Blue DR's but I do like the feel of the SIT's I got for my Jazz. I'm a dummy when it comes to setup too.

God Bless, Ray

Yep, I play a custom SIT set myself. I asked them to match the DR Lo Rider set that I played for years and years... what guages do you need?

Whichever guages Roscoe uses "stock" on the 5ers. I won't be in need of 'em for a lil while. The Roscoe nickels are still goin' strong.

I was curious because I dig the feel of the SIT's but I wouldn't wanna have to tweak the setup. I'm too 'fraid of goofing it up.

God Bless, Ray

My new set of SIT Nickels arrived today UPS via Rocket Music (Thank You Very Much), I threw them on the SKB 3006 and they sound great. No gig for about 2 weeks, but practice and much noodling in the near future. I have a feeling I am going to really like these strings for the SKB- smooth, well balanced and affordable. Will keep using the BB's for the Century Standard Black Onyx (for many reasons stated in prior posts), but may be converting to these SIT strings for the other Roscoe.

Awesome, Pete! Glad to hear you're digging them.

And thanks for the reminder that I needed to post the availability of the RockBrights Nickel 5 & 6 string sets. I just added them to the OP. The RockBrights Nickel strings are the ones I've been using for the past few years, and Cameron McLaughlin is actually an endorser for them. Super smooth to the touch but still quite bright, long lasting... I love 'em!!

Hey Greg, is it possible to get them SIT's in an E-C setup, espcially a heavy guage?

Greg,
Thanks for shipping the SIT Power Steels to me. More recordings will now ensue. I hate recording dead strings..

Gracias Amigo

BTW Greg, How does SIT's Steel compare to the Nickel feel wise? Are the Steels as smooth?

God Bless, Ray

Ditto what Ray said - can't wait to hear ya again, Steve!

I've never tried the steels, so I'll be interested in Steve's take. Are they silky smooth?

I wouldn't say they're silky smooth but they feel like a good round wound string and that's something I've been used to since the 70's. They sound like a new set of RS round wounds or DR's with a healthy longevity.

Thanks again Greg. You're the go to guy for strings and equipment so you can expect more string orders for my other three basses as well..

Greg, not sure if you've experimented, but I figured it was worth asking... Is it dangerous to assume that DR Sunbeams will work without issue? I'd like to think that the lengths are the same between these, the Hi-Beams, and the Fat beams, but in a rare lucid moment I thought I'd ask before buying. Just thinking ahead to the next string change. I absolutely love Sunbeams on many of my other basses, so I'm thinking of trying them on Greensboro's finest.

I would assume you are correct Jerry, the length should be adequate. I've never stocked the Sunbeams, though, so I can't say for sure. I'd be happy to order some sets and confirm before you buy, though. I'll get a couple each of the 5 and 6-string sets. I assume you'd take a .045 G string?
