LOL. I saw Reggie in DC last year with Victor. He had a big Marshall half stack on stage with him, but he also had that little Peavey combo he uses. I think he might have gone into the Peavey amp to get his tone and then used the Marshall to make it louder on stage...

no pics of my stint (haven't figured out how to be in two places at once) but I do have a recording. Hmm, maybe I have part of it down...

I was second to last to go up. Kind of a departure from what was called most of the night. One edit in post to trim out some confusion on when we moved from the head to the solo changes, but otherwise it is what it is. Bob and Eric tear it up!

Sounds great! Nothing beats playing with a killer band, eh? And you more than held your own! Great job.

I'm spoiled in that I've got some amazing players in my current bands. But this was something else, and was amazing to watch Victor work the emcee thing, both while playing the bass and just as cheerleader. I stole a few of his tricks last night (as bandleader role, not bass player) when I sat in with my band at the regular sunday night thing where we had a sub for me.

But the camp is so not about music...while still being about music. I'm still reeling and figuring it out. And will be for a long time. As a friend of mine says, "live the question."

Yeah, I've come to the conclusion that if it's about music, it's about music on a much higher plane than we typically think of music. And strangely enough, it's so much more effective at making us better musician's than the crap we normally focus on...

Taking lessons here with Cameron opened my eyes to a lot of things about music that I didn't even know I didn't know... and then Victor's camps just took that to a whole 'nother level...

I need to get back to a reunion camp one of these years. I've lost a lot of the enthusiasm for putting in the work to get better that you no doubt have right now. I need a booster shot!

That's very much it. And I'm still on a growth trajectory that started at Camp 2 years ago (can't believe it's been that long!).

The whole "well, if you're going to a weeklong music camp, it's BS for some of it not to be about music!" really plays false once you experience WootCamp. All of it wound up in my musical self - some of the musical lessons have suffused my life, and some of the life lessons have suffused my music.

How do you know what you know till you know what you don't know? And how do you quantify what you do know if you don't know what it is you're supposed to know .... or not know?

Yknow?

found some photo evidence

rather intent (contents under pressure)

If you listen to the recording and hear the hoots followed by Joe's "ohh, yeah!" it is in response to me trying to prove that jazzers can show off too

Oh, I have some pictures to share. Tee hee hee. I just haven't had time to dig through all the media I came home with!

Thanks a ton for posting pics of Wil and I on stage, Todd. I also cannot figure out how to be in two places at once

I agree! People asked me how "bass camp" was, and what I learned on the bass. It dawned on me that I really didn't learn that much about the bass actually. I realized I already know how to play the bass; it's the music and how to start grabbing onto music and channeling it that I learned the most about. That, and how to make a fire with sticks. I can't explain it, but making the fire by hand (especially after failing to do so on my first attempt) moved me in an oddly profound way. It's like, the fire itself wasn't the goal. The process of making fire was the goal, and the fire was just a validation that your process was grooving. LOL. Snake oil anyone?
