JMJ | It actually exceeds my download limit for about 3 years so I won't be getting any.

Hopefully I will have three cameras within the week and can start editing as the rest download. One camera is at 75%, but the rest I am just starting now (I wanted to watch a bit before I committed to a fairly big download)
Justin - I know I said your tone was great in another thread, but my god. All I had to go on was my memory and a few crappy bootlegs. But having this really makes it a lot clearer. The tone on Discipline is to die for.
Also, something that I couldn't tell from when I saw you and was in the pit - you are great at "not playing." I'm sure this comes from just a lot of time on stage and being really comfortable, but when I am not playing during parts in a stretch of a song, I feel really awkward and not sure what to do. You look so natural on stage - I'm very jealous.

| | | TaySte: I know, prob. exceeds my download limit for a while too!
Micahbell: Cheers very much. I am very grateful for the very astute complements! "Not playing" is one of my favorite things to do, sometimes. Seriously. There's something very pleasant AND challenging about communing with an arena full of people by just standing there. It's a game I'm always trying to improve upon, but I get excited with anticipation for those moments.
Best,
JMJ

| | | Hey there Justin ! I've got a little question for you...
For a while now, even before the NIN.com gift, I've been working on my own multi-cam videos . What I do is first find a good sounding audio bootleg, then overdub all the electro stuff with the multitrack files and I re-record some instrument parts, so it *almost sounds kinda like soundboard audio. Then I collect footage from all around the internet and I edit videos to it.
I've worked a lot on this and did almost the whole set before the gift came out. All my work is kinda obsolete now, but people are still thanking me and commenting my stuff, and I'm having so much fun that I'm keeping on anyways. Although now I'm only doing songs that haven't been played at the three released gigs to make it worthwhile.
I've been concentrating a lot on the Ghosts songs for a while which is my favourite part of the show. I'm trying to restore the audio for 17 Ghosts II right now... You know, the main reason I'm able to synch my overdubs is the fact that you're playing to a click track... For that song though, it seems as though you're not using one. The tempo varies a lot during the beginning of the song, but when Trent starts playing the marimba, the tempo suddenly gets a lot tighter, around 77 BPM. Either the bootleg I managed to find was played without a click for technical problems or whatever, either you guys are playing it without a metronome or the click track only starts half way through... Think you could shed some light on this for me, so I can hopefully find a solution ? I really can't wait to get this song done, it's so beautiful !
And by the way, I've had a lot of fun trying to figure out your cool-as-hell God Given riff ! Couldn't get the bass to sound quite as good as you though
Thanks a lot ! |

| | | | Hi there,
Thanks for the note, sounds like you're doing a very intriguing project. Keep it up! I wouldn't call it obsolete, it is your unique creation.
Ghosts 17 is not to a click, it is free time. Robin and I have delays on our guitars that give it a vague tightness, but we aren't trying to be particularly tight, so there's some waver in that particular piece. You'll have to tempo map it or something. Sorry that's it's not tighter for you!
Glad you like that God Given riff, cheers.
All the best,
JMJ

| | | Thanks for the quick reply ! Guess I'm going to have to fit each beat manually, because of course Beat Detective wasn't very effective with the bootleg.
Now... I am also involved as one of the head editors for the "This One Is On Us" DVD project which will feature the whole fan-recorded Las Vegas show as well as a composite of the HD stuff released on the official site. We're going to do a massive multiple disk DVD/Blu-Ray packed with extras and bonus songs and distribute it for free on the internet.
We are talking about possible extras we could add right now. We were thinking about having maybe a commentary track about more technical aspect of the show (visuals, live arrangements, etc) running for specific songs and I was wondering if you might be interested in participating in an interview for that ? I could just send you a few questions by email, you could answer whichever ones you like, either by recording your answers with a computer mic or by written answers that could be added as a subtitle track if that's easier for you. You could take your time, answer whenever you want, no rush at all. Needless to say that would be SUPER COOL, although we'd totally understand with your very busy schedule that you might not have time for it. Tell me what you think
Thanks again for your time ! |

| | | | I love the "This One Is On Us" scene...Robin and I have been following it periodically. Hats off to you.
I'd love to help with an interview, but would need to clear it with TR and management first. Now's not the time, either; I'm SWAMPED with various sessions, and phasing into NIN technical rehearsals as well.
Can you PM me sometime later?
Best,
JMJ

Can't tell because of the lighting. Dug the guitar work, too. You're really good. Can't believe you guys are just giving this stuff away. What a fantastic band. I could kick myself in the ass for missing it when you came here. If only I knew Josh and Alessandro were going to bolt...
I think I'm even more into the 4-pc lineup, though. Makes you guys work harder...more value for the ticket price As many instruments as you, Trent, and Robin play between you, I think it would be cake to cover what's missing from the 5-pc. |

We've put up a video of Wish from the Las Vegas DVD, which features audio AND video 100% fan-produced... You were right JMJ : NIN fans are amazing because this footage kicks ass and I don't think I've witness that many fanbases come up with such quality stuff... Really excited about this now !
Check it out : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3TG3WzBmIg&fmt=22
As the NIN/JA tour starts, we'll also be setting up a new release for this tour and everyone is very welcome to get involved in it... visit www.thisoneisonus.org for more info ! | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
