Audio interface & headphones suggestion.

Hey Justin, I thought you might have some experience in this area.

For my uni course I have to do a 3 months work experience at a coal mine. I'm taking a bass with me but I don't want take my amp, partly because of the living arrangements, not wanting to disturb the people I have to live with for 3 months and I don't think there is much room. I am however taking a laptop so my thinking is to get a cheapish interface for the laptop and decent set of headphones. Which hopefully will allow me to practise silently and try my hand at recording.

So yeah any suggestions for headphones and interfaces (or even a completely idea)? I'm really a novice when it comes to this stuff.

Cheers.

Headphones: Sennheiser HD280 Pro, or Beyer DT770...or some good in-ears, like M-Audio IE-30's.

Interface: Apogee Duet, or for even more simple/inexpensive:

And it works with ProTools if you like.

Thanks for the reply, the FastTrack looks exactly the I want. I know some people who own a music-technology business so hopefully I give everything a good workout before putting down any cash.

Heya Justin, would you say the IE-30s would be suitable for use for on-stage in-ear monitoring? I want to get a set of ears of my own in case I'm faced with that for live work, but I don't want to break the bank. Plus I need some new phones for working on my mobile laptop rig, etc.--maybe those would work for both purposes?

I use IE 30's live every week and I like them better than the Shure E5's I used to use. They are an excellent value for the money.

Get the discounted Line 6 GearBox with TonePort:

Amazon still has them: http://www.amazon.com/Line-GearBox-T.../dp/B000JKVLR2

Or Stillwater.

Why? You get tons of bass amp and cab simulators for recording, and you could upgrade to PodFarm Platinum if you register the Gold release.

I just got some IE30s, will try them at a rehearsal next week. They do sound really good, but man, they're HOT. Compared to my MDR-7506s they're waaayyy louder, and seemingly very revealing. I never realized how noisy the headphone out on a MacBook Pro is until now . . .

Well pretty much decided on a Zoom B2.1u, it has a built in A/D converter which is quite good as well as amp models and effects. (which is handy seeing I was considering getting a multi for things I would like but can't justify like Phase and Chorus).

I'm going to look at headphones tomorrow.
