Catalinbread SRT vs. SansAmp VT

They’re advertised similar, really. SVT character and drive in a pedal. There has been a lot of talk about the VT here (and I really like it although I haven’t bought one for myself yet) but have you used the SFT and how does it compare? Similar, but different I’m guessing?

Tech21 stuff rules, but there is usually something to be said about smaller “handmade” pedal companies like Catalinbread and Devi Ever, etc… (I think those guys may both be in Portland, OR, come to think of it. Maybe it’s the INSANELY good coffee. Stumptown Hairbender is my fav.)

'SRT' = SFT?

Yep, similar. IIRC, the SFT's eq knobs are both pre-gain, so they do the same job as the character knob on the VT. So while the SFT might be a bit more flexible, the VT is easier to dial in and gives you post-gain EQ if you don't want to use your amp for that (or are going direct).

As a pedal to go into an amp, I'd go SFT; for a DI, I'd go VT.

I think the SFT is a naturally woolier/cloudier sound. In a cool way. Conversely, I can get a VT sound to cut more and be more articulate.

Same here, plus I'm interested in any general comments you might have on the Valvedrive.
