Most places seem to have Flea of RHCP down as the bassist on this album, but i heard somewhere that you played on it, so I figured it was worth asking just incase.

I heard that the bass used on this album as a vintage fender precision strung with flats, through an SVT.
Could you let me know any more details about the setup and how the bass sound on the album was achieved, I love how the bass sits in such a focused sonic space in the mix and stays crystal clear without getting in the way of the other instruments.

This is something I am striving to achieve in my own music but have always found to be quite a challenge, and any light you could shed on the situation would be helpful.

Apologies if I got mixed up and you didn't play on this.

Cheers,
Joe

I might be wrong, but I think he only played upright on Televators.
I don't have the booklet with me right now, but I'm pretty sure that's what's written on it at least.

I suppose that would make sense, thanks.

Any advice would still be appreciated, I know Justin has a wealth of experience when it comes to these types of basses/amps, maybe he still has some helpful ideas even if he didn't play on the album.

I just played upright, yes. Televators and another unreleased piece.

Not sure how Flea recorded the electric....
