Do professional musicians care about stereo gear?

Besides obsessing over bass gear, I occasionally obsess over hi-fi gear. I've heard it said more than once that professional musicians often have really bad stereo systems, even when they could afford better. I've heard of orchestra players only owning boomboxes, and things like that. Do you find this to be the case among yourself and the people you know?

Yes. Most musicians AND engineers I know have marginal systems.

Mine is pretty bad, a Denon.

My monitors in my studio, however, are not. I use Adams and Acoustic Energy AE1 classics powered by Adcom and McIntosh amps, respectively.

Best,
JMJ
