I Need A Break: JMJ Update 12/19/12

Well, it's been quite a year! Here's some stuff that happened in my life:

- M83 blew up. Midnight City went to the Top 10 and gold certification in lots of countries. Album likewise very strong selling despite all odds and had some nice mentions in various "Best of 2011" lists.

- Got the Grammy nom for M83.

- Produced the Neon Trees record, and it blew up.

- Produced a Neon Trees song for the "Frankenweenie" soundtrack.

- Produced three songs for Tegan & Sara's upcoming.

- Produced upcoming Paramore and co-wrote five songs with them for that.

- Started a record with Crystal Fighters.

- Got engaged!

- Moved house.

- Built up my studio right, after mass destruction caused by a flood.

- Did a bunch of Beck shows including an Australian tour last month.

- Recorded a bunch with Beck.

- Did some bass sessions like Jason Mraz, Keaton Henson, and some others.

- Music directed Neon Trees and M83 tours.

Phew. Now I need a bit of a break 'cuz I'm tired. Tons of gratitude over here, though! So glad to have been busy with lots of fun stuff.

Back to guitars...have a good evening!

Damn, dude! That's a full year by anyone's yardstick. And definitely some great work that you should be proud of. And most of all, congratulations on getting engaged!

How you find time to stop by and check in with us at TB from time to time is beyond me! But thanks for doing just that. You really give us some cool insights across a range of topics, and it's much appreciated.

luck = modicum of talent x (bucketloads of determination + a few metric f*&ktons of work + 1 heaping helping of singlemindedness)

That sounds like a great year, minus the flooding of course. Congrats on everything. I'm sure it is hard to turn down work, especially with projects you really want to work on, but take a break man. You owe it to yourself.

Congrats on a great year! The Neon Trees and M83 albums both kill. Both are records that me and my kids can get into, which is rare anymore. Thanks for all your hard work.

I agree. But doing what you love to do is not something that everyone regardless of talent or hardwork can have in there lifetime.
