Jeremy Davis bass rig

Hi Justin (and the rest of the forum),

Love the new Paramore material, it sounds great! I'm interested in what equipment Jeremy used in the studio, particularly his basses. I found this photo on his twitter:

And was really surprised to see a Hofner there, is that for a new track? Also, what are the basses with pointy headstocks? They almost look like Grabbers but the body is too angled.

Like I said, it sounds great so any insight to the creation would be great!

Thanks

Aidan

It looks like two new Grabbers and a vintage Ripper in there.

Gibson G3's namely. We used them extensively on the record, along with Rippers and Grabbers, some J's, P's. All over the shop. And yes, the Hofner as well, which is now part of the live rig.

Thanks, so those aren't Flying V basses in there? The body looks too straight to be a ripper or grabber...

Am I seeing the same photo?

Basses 5&6 (counting from the left). The bodies look far too straight to be a grabber/ripper.

Maybe my eyes are going mad!

An odd looking 35" Jazz Bass on the far right? Or is it just sitting oddly in the rack? Didn't know there was a bigger scale J if it is. Great to see a bit of JMJ rubbing off on JD, his past J deluxe and custom J deluxe tone was pretty pedestrian and boring in the mix!

That's probably his "Bass VI" shaped custom J.

I see what you're talking about, but they are the G3s. The shape of the pick guards and the way the straps are hanging has your eyes confused.

Hi,

Just wondering if you could give any insight to what pedals Jeremy used on the album? And also (probably not) what pedals he's currently using live?

I saw a picture on twitter from last year of Jeremy with a P bass with a bunch of pedals at his feet but it was all blurry and instagram'd and I couldn't see what they were.

I think I'd rather leave it for him or his tech Riley to reveal...lots of stuff was used, it was all over the map. Mostly newer boutique offerings. One thing that worked well for him was a combination of a GT2, a VTBass and a Microtubes B7k all cascading serial. But we got a lot deeper than that with some more specialized pedals too.

Noticing a trend the bassist from Neon Trees has a Hofner now, oddly after recording with JMJ ;)

I miss mine, too much coffee table bass in my life.

VT Bass... of course. I really need to pick up that pedal!

You really should. I feel like mine has been rarely off in the last year or so that I've had it.
