Absolutely!

Love that bass. Was one of my first...I thought it was so space-aged! That added pickguard should probably go, though.

Not in my style anymore, and has been sitting in a closet for almost 20 years.

I hope you enjoy it! It sounds really good and plays great.

Best,
Justin

Wow, I know you dig the Steinberger Justin but I would have never guessed that a headless, graphite and most of all FIVE string Status would have been in your collection.

At least tell me that beast is passive . . .

And no disrespect to the bass. I didn't see it being in JMJ's wheelhouse but Status makes sweet instruments.

23 odd years ago I was down for this weird hyper modern flavor. Never really used the 5th string tho...I played the whole thing up high like Peter Hook.

Nice.

Steps to playing like Peter Hook:

1. Get a chorus
2. Play up high on a bass hung down low
3. Be awesome

Greetings JMJ, can't wait for the Paramore album. Just over 30 days away!

So apparently I've been living under a rock for the past few years, I just found out about Another Version of the Truth last week. I feel absolutely terrible I wasn't aware of this 3 years ago, I was really bummed out when I missed the Lights in the Sky tour. Never got to see you play live with Nine Inch Nails.

Was always really curious to hear your playing but didn't want to rely on low quality fan filmed YouTube videos that don't pickup bass frequencies. Downloaded it and I've been listening to the mp3s nonstop, absolutely loving your tone. God Given, The Hand That Feeds and Discipline are standouts IMO. Wow!

...so what I'm wondering, what would you say were the most important pedals to your tone? I noticed you had quite the collection of fuzz on your board.

I know quite a few of the sounds were covered in this thread:

Your Distortion Sounds (NIN)

I'm sure a few of us would like specific settings.

Oh I don't remember settings anymore. It's been, what, almost four years now.

Justin's settings wouldn't apply to you anyway, unless you use his signal chain and play just like him

I've never understood people wanting to find out settings, because of this very reason. The motivation is cool and I'm honored by it, but I just don't know how it translates into the real world.

Oh sure, you say that now...

BWAHAHAHAHA!!!

Well it's a question people ask legit to everyone (I've even been asked a few times), so you'll have to forgive the amount of seriousness given your question.

Ahhh. Yes. This looks like it will do quite nicely. Didn't see this earlier. Thanks.

The settings are visible in the pictures if you zoom in (assuming he didn't fiddle with the knobs before taking pictures to throw us off ). Not so visible on the Swollen Pickle or the POG.

My original question was what JMJ thought were the most "important" pedals to his tone. Like what fuzz he used the most, etc. But I totally understand if you don't remember, it was four years ago.

Just from my own two ears, there were quite a few VT Bass and GT-2 appearances, and a lot of the heavier fuzzes seemed to be B:Assmaster and Depth Charge. If you dig "Industrial Fuzz" tones, any of the "Brassmaster circuit" style fuzzes are a must!

I think I remember reading somewhere he used the Swollen Pickle on Closer, Ruiner and 1,000,000. I'm completely lost on what an octave would be used for though.

Maybe for 1,000,000 and Ruiner, but Closer sounds like textbook GT-2 to my worn out old ears.
