Which Keyboard are you using with NIN?

Hey Justin

On "The Gift" footage on youtube, during "Discipline" you use a keyboard in the bridge. What is it? I am looking at getting a keyboard for some synth stuff as well, and would like to know what you like/have used.

That was a simple Novation controller driving Native Absynth. Most of my keyboard work with NIN was done with Native Instruments stuff: Reactor, Absynth, Kontakt, etc. hosted on a Mac.

Cool! Have you used any hardware synths recently that you've been a fan of? I have been interested in the Dave Smith Morpho and the Tetra especially, do you have any thoughts on those?

Thanks

Mopho is great. Had one out on the road with my traveling studio. I need to buy Mopho keyboard when it comes out. Prophet 08 is great, Poly Evolver is great. All his stuff rules, I have to say. Truly.

Otherwise, my other unequivocal hardware (virtual analog) keyboard recommendation might come as a bit of a surprise: the Alesis Ion. Now out of production, it's a total gem. It does extremely unique things.

Analog/vintage wise, I've got my Octave Cat and my SH-101.

And this small modular I'm tinkering with and still buying modules for (attached)

Best,
JMJ

I got the vibe that Dave Smith stuff was great. I am still not sure if i should save the money and get the tetra to get the 4 voices

What is so special about the Ion? Could you elaborate about "extreamely unique things"?

Thanks for all the advice, its great to have guys like you on here.

Very strong Oberheim-esque filters. Unique internal routing. Dramatic arpeggiation which is very easy to use. Weird, motive pads.

I hear the Tetra's great. Just not needed for me since I have the Prophet.
