LOVE that song after the first listen, which is extremely rare with me these days. I can't explain how it makes me feel, but it very much takes me back to my childhood, which was in the 80's, but I didn't get into that music until the mid-90's... makes me feel innocent again, I guess. That feeling is why I love music so much.

Rockin' video. I dream about kicking that much ass onstage.

Awesome! I've found there are certain songs that I cannot (and will not) learn to play, no matter how much I love them, because breaking it down to notes and timing destroys the emotional connection I have with it, thus making the magic of the song completely disappear. This song sounds relatively simple to play, but it's now on my "never learn" list!

I feel the same way!! I don't have a "no learn list," but since I've been a professional working musician and have to learn music constantly, I definitely make an effort to keep music magical like it was when I was a little kid. A big moment was when my now deceased Dad gave me a copy of Todd Rundgren's A Wizard A True Star and said "you'll get this eventually." He was definitely right!! That record melted my little kid brain!! I pull that one out occasionally to remember him and what it felt like listening back then. :^)

The other thing that I do regularly is to listen to complexity different styles of music driving and around home than I'm working with. A few peers think that is so weird, but it's because I feel like it keeps enjoying music AND playing music fresh that way. It's also gotten me into discovering some crazy out of the box stuff that ended up really shaping what I try to do. My M83 fan-dom was definitely a result of looking for different stuff. Been die hard since Dead Cities. :^) Another "constantly on the iPod musical pallet cleanser" is Talk Talk's Laughing Stock. If I had a dollar for every time I listened to that one driving home from a gig, I'd buy that crazy gilded bass in the other thread!! Ha ha ha.

That performance was killer--that song really brought me back a bit too--when I first started out playing live in the 80's.

I'm with you Dan--I compose for a living, so I'm constantly writing in lots of "popular" genres and having to dissect them and do them believably. That's all great, but when it comes to my own original artist stuff now, I've gone way down this algorithmic/experimental/improv path of composing just to get as far away from "conventional" song craft as possible. Keeps it exciting and fresh--"beginner's mind" if you will!

"Beginner's mind." I like that. We could all benefit from that in all aspects of our lives I think.

Happy Thanksgiving Day to you all too, BTW.

I love that sax! One of the best sounding mixes from a TV show I've heard. Thanks for sharing.
