New Yorker magazine

The New Yorker is known for its meticulous fact checkers and proofreaders. Yet in a piece on NIN they misspelled your name ("Johnson").

Proof that bassists get no respect?

At least good things were said about you.

Can't win 'em all. I'd be rich if I got a dollar for every time...

Jimmy - You've seen all the gear he has?? There is no way he is rich...Justin appears to have GAS as bad as the rest of us.

Or maybe the music fairy gives him a new piece of gear for everytime someone gets his surname wrong... :P

not to get all Cumby-yah on everyone: But he who gets to do what he loves, provide for his family, and is surrounded by those who love him is rich indeed.

LOLZ! That's funneeez!

No, not rich. Might be better off if I didn't buy so many damn pedals/basses. Modest 3 bedroom house, etc.

Time to sell some sh*t.

Modest 3 bedroom house in LA? That ain't hay when you consider LA property values.

Anyway, like I said, your financials are between you and the IRS, but should you get that sale going, I call dibs on your Club Bass

Club bass ain't going nowhere. Might be another Hofner though, not sure. It's mostly stuff that I don't use much. My wife and I are scheming (she does all the eBay) and the pile in the storage room is growing. Probably several basses, the odd microphone, some Line6 stuff I don't need, extra boxes of strings, a few amps, a bunch of pedals, some studio outboard, etc.

When we're ready to kick it off, I'll post a link to her auctions here, in case anyone's interested.

The thing about my house is the only way I could really do it is to buy in our slightly rough neighborhood. It's not bad, just not that great. Also I bought at the peak of the market in '06 and the value has gone down since. Bummer. We love the house, though.

I can relate, bro...we bought the house next to us as an investment in 07, thinking that there would be no way property values could decline any farther, and had the same thing happen. We ended up bailing on it and declaring bankruptcy. Best thing we could have ever done! Don't know what the rules are in Cali, but Florida bankruptcy laws are fantastic! And like I told my wife, I don't feel bankrupt

Anyway, before I turn this into the Suze Orman Show with yet another one of my inadvertent thread hijackings, please do link us to your auctions when you get them happening.

haha no matter how gay it may seem, who needs to be rich when ou do get to have the gear you want (and more), have your family support you, play in bands and with artists your a fan of foremost, and to top it off you have the bunch of us talkbassers here seeing how cool, calm and collected you managed to stay.
It's a job I would take any day of the year!
just stay that way!

(and you should see real estate here though, its booming for foreign investments)

Definitely post the link to the auctions Justin. You gotta let your Talkbass fans get in on any action.

Imagine how high the prices could go when they know the gear had been in your company!

I think you should just list the gear and prices you want, you won't have the hassle of ebay fees and you'll be dealing with stand up tb'ers and it takes about 2 minutes to list it on TB not the 20minutes and item ebay takes

Just a thought

Also how do you feel about international shipping

I feel all you guys, for sure. I'll list here first, before eBay.

International shipping is no problem, man. But first (whenever I actually get it together), I need to come up with the list. We'll see if there's anything you guys actually care about on there. There may be a few interesting tidbits, but I don't promise anything mind-blowing.

Best,
JMJ

It'll go back up here--I think that's for sure. Good thing you love the house. Man, we bought a great little (but I mean TEENY) house over in Eagle Rock in '03 that had a serviceable room for my studio, etc. in the garage, for a steal. Was a fairly rough hood--nice folks--but rough, nonetheless, so we sold it and bought a much more expensive place in a "nice" neighborhood up the road right smack-dab in the peak of '06 like you--I built a studio in it, blah blah. Oy. Now it's killing us, as budgets are down (at least for me!) Hindsight is 20/20, but I wish we'd stayed in the hood! I might be able to afford some of your outboard gear you're gonna move if we had

Here's the conversation I picture:

Corrine: What about this bass, honey?

JMJ: Are you kidding? I can't sell that!

Corrine: OK, how about this bass?

JMJ: Are you kidding? I can't sell that!

Repeat 200x.

Don't worry, bro...we're musicians...we understand
