I've only spent a bit of time at Dennis Herring's studio Sweet Tea, in Oxford. But I did a record that had me locked down for two weeks and little time to spare. I'm friends with all the Remy Zero guys, too, but have never visited them in their habitat. Otherwise, I'm not too savvy.

thanks, justin.
i'm surprised you never crossed paths with jim dickinson as well before he passed. i cut some tracks at his studio, zebra ranch, recently with shannon mcnally and hot sauce and with eric deaton. you should check them both out. amazing roots music and hill country boogie. jim's sons are the north miss. allstars. jimbo mathus, formerly of squirrel nut zippers, is here too. his latest album, jimmy the kid, is amazing.
were you working on a fischerspooner record at sweet tea? i've cut some tracks there. my buddy/ bandmate tom queyja has engineered for dennis for years. he engineered the last modest mouse record they cut there.
also, since you collect vintage gear you may be interested in my buddy mike gillentine's shop, main st. vintage guitars. www.pwogs.com
he's done custom builds, repairs, etc. for gary tallent, tom peterson, johnny marr, jack white and a bunch of other folks. there's a 60s p bass and several hollowbodies there right now with your name all over them!
thanks for your response, tony

Hi Tony,
Thank you for the very illuminating synopsis of your cool scene down there. I am very jealous that you got to work with the great Jim Dickinson. He was an unmitigated genius.

I didn't work on Fischerspooner there no, though for a minute I thought I was going to. It was a record for an artist on Atlantic called Jessica Dobson, who unfortunately got dropped. She went on to form a band called Deep Sea Diver and play guitar briefly for Beck on the Modern Guilt tour.

Your friend's website looks tasty, but I see no listings. So of course I dropped him an email. My credit card is melting down in my wallet.

JMJ

Local Mississippi music

North Missssippi is covered in deep seeded music heritage of all sorts. Check out my band, SO DISCO, from Corinth. Currently only have tracks of some old works in progress. Looking for gigs all across the area if anyone knows of any new or hidden venues not on the beaten path.
