Oddball Basses

JMJ,

Two questions regarding the more unusual basses you've ammassed over the years.

1) Have you ever recorded and/or performed with them? For example, your Steinberger, Ovation Magnum and Electra MPC come to mind. These are great instruments, very design forward (almost futuristic even for today) but very unique in look, feel and tone. If you have used these in any practical appllication, what were the sessions or gigs and what was the response?

2) Do you keep a "wish list" or at least a "deeply curious" list of other oddball basses that you haven't yet owned but might like to one day?

Thanks.

Yes! Steinberger - with Beck...very liked by many. Heavy tone too! Ovation Magnum, only in the studio. Good response. Not a particularly unusual tone, though. Electra MPC with Ima Robot and Beck - sick tone, heavy sound. I dunno, people are used to me with my idiosyncrasies.

Yes, I do!

Thanks.

No way!! I have to keep a few secrets!!!!!!

But I think it's safe to say that a Stingray and an EB-0 are on the menu. The other stuff is too rare and weird for me to post here, sorry! That's a solo mission.

I have a 60 EB-0 that sits in its case waiting for me to get off my butt and fix its broken body. Can't blame you for wanting one...it's a very bassy bass, kind of a one trick pony, but I used to really dig it when it worked.

Love that. The MPC w/ Ima Robot makes perfect sense. How cool. Same for the 'berger and Beck.

Regarding the secrecy of your list-- Oh phooey!

This is THE palce to reveal your deep dark desires for esoteric bass gear, man!

Here are some of my most desired odd ball basses, in case it inspires you to share:

-Gitler Bass
-Klein Headless Bass
-Travis Bean Bass
-RD Artist Bass
-Greco T Bird
-Roland Synth Bass
-Status Headless
-Musicman Sabre Bass

Drawing blanks at the moment but the desired list is actually much longer.

And oddly enough, the owned list is even longer than that so no need to use up server space. Thank goodness I am married to a patient woman!

So what's in your collections future, JMJ? 34 string Conklin perhaps

I'm not budging!

But I'll tell you what: Greco T-Birds are SO nice. And Roland G-77's, which I have two of, are really good sounding basses! Weird.

The oddest thing I have though is probably a Gibson 20/20. That thing looks so retarded.

Fair enough. I understand why pleading the 5th in these matters is prudent-- minimizes ebay bidding wars!

Thanks for the tip regarding Greco Ts. Ima put the smack down on one in short order.
