Just saw this last night, thought it was cool that the main character is a bass player.
There's a scene with one of the Seven Evil Exes where Scott and the Evil Ex do a "Bass Battle," and on the score CD it's credited to JMJ and Jason Falkner (both faves of mine btw.)
Who played what on that? I'd love some details.
Thanks! |

| | | | Here's the really really weird part: I played a Ric on the recording, and was doing the Evil Ex bass part (Brandon Routh). Jason did the Scott part, and tracked it on a Mustang. Total inadvertent reversal!
JMJ

JMJ | Thanks so much for the response! Did you contribute to the rest of the score as well? I bought it on iTunes and there are no liner notes... It took me a while to realize that the "Clash at Demonhead" track was by Metric...
Thanks!
EDIT: @yeggi - keepin' it real on the east side, yo.

By this I mean Scott's part sounds like it was coming from a mustang (while he was seen playing a ric)
and the Evil Ex part sounded very Ric-ish despite being shown played on a mustang....
It all comes full circle. |

Pretty cool that JMJ did the parts for the bass battle. I liked that it wasn't some noodley contest to see how many notes they could string together but was more of a duel of face melting abilities. |

It all comes full circle. | Could be the McGurk effect. And if it is, you could wonder how much of techtalk (So and so bass sounds way better than this and that one!) is victim to it.
</Buzz Killington moment.>

But wouldn't my statement be opposite of the McGurk effect? Since I found the sounds to be wrong to the image (I also generally prefer the sound of a ric to a mustang).
In the McGurk effect I would think that the visual of the Ric to sound better because of my association with how Rics sound...
ah forget it, too much thinking. |

On a sidenote: (to nerd it up even further, sorry Jim! ) Did any of you guys notice a rise of nerdiness in popular culture? It's almost cool to be a geek nowadays.

Anyway, the Bluray allegedly has footage of the actual recording of the battle. Should be pretty awesome! http://youtu.be/1mWBrD7D4As?a
(also cool to see Edgar calling JMJ one of the finest American bass players)

The first novel has a chapter where the band is practicing and it shows you the notes and the words to the song! It's a really well written and drawn comic. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
