justin,
i was wondering how you handle the scheduling between dates with your own band, ima robot, and session work with other groups. i'm trying to balance time between shows with my own band and session work with other people, both live and in the studio. i realize that my dilemma is a bit different than yours as you work on mostly a large tour schedule with most things (shows schedules of months at a time with one person or group), but do you recommend giving one or the other priority or working on a first come first serve basis.

Not to derail this thread, but Christopher, are you the bass player for the Sacramento band Walking Spanish? If so, I really dig your stuff.

It's a little bit "first come, first served". I haven't been with Ima Robot for two years, by the way. I have a project now called Digital Noise Academy which is like a seven piece indie rock super group, if you will. We haven't figured out what we're doing yet, but we're finishing mixes on our record this week. Anyway, it obviously gets back-burnered because it's not bringing home the bacon. That's the thing, really. I can't turn down clients like a Rick Rubin or a Beck or a Tori Amos...if they call, I have to rock it. But my schedule isn't always insane. It's slow right now (only a few sessions a week, several hours a day doing my A&R gig, various meetings, and the rest of the time I'm at my place writing, which is how I have time to do this forum right now.) Then sometimes, it's like 14 hour days every day for weeks and weeks. Back to back sessions....but that's not constant.

Best,
JMJ
