A 110 is great for an E string dropping down to D, sure. I don't think changing the gauge much will be a vast improvement. It's all about your touch, the bass, the amp. Basically, everything else in your chain. I don't really know much about pick technique. When I'm playing, I'm not very self-aware about what my right hand is doing, right or wrong. I play both instruments the same.
12" speakers: I love the Fender Tonemaster 2x12, as well as a Laney 2 x 12 I have. Those sound sick for bass as well as guitar.
Your rig sounds excellent to me, man. If I had those things in front of me, I could get an insane bass sound.
