Hey Justin hows it going? You all pumped for mexico?

I was wondering. In your travels have you ever come across a theremin? like played it or had anytime around someone who did?

I'm loving Mexico...got driven around today to see some great sights and eat some great food. It was a nice introduction to Mexico City. My life sucks, I'll tell ya.

Sure, I've had plenty of proximity to theremins. We used them extensively when I toured and recorded with Air, and we've had them around here and there for Beck as well.

They are easy to buy nowadays (various kits, Moog theremin, etc), and very fun.

Well congrats Justin you luck SOB.

Yeah i am looking at a kit for like $80 on ebay that i can make my own housing for.

I have one made from 3 am radios and it does work and thats how i got into it.

They do make one for the bass just look on ebay. it is an optic one that you mount on your bass. it works off photo-cells which means you use lighting to change it rather than your hand.

Lighting? Does that mean it will take off uncontrollably if someone turns the spot on you?

Yeah, I'll stick with the hand and forego the lights. Actually I'll forego the theremin altogether Cool little device, but I have no application for it.

theremin(s), what would the plural be? anyhow, IME, they're hilarious when you're drunk, other wise, never really messed with them. i know they're difficult to master.

I used to think the theremin was nothing more than a novelty item, and an annoying one at that. I still don't care for music where it dominates. But about five years ago, I saw Steve Nieve use one tastefully and to great effect with Elvis Costello on a number of songs (in addition to his usual masterful keyboard work). That changed my mind; I think it can be pretty useful in a lot of music now, when used with restraint.
