hey JMJ, hope all is well!
I remember when you were starting on the forum here there was a thread where you got a new(ish) 2band stingray, so I was wondering if you'd been using it at all?
I know you're more of a passive type of guy, and can feel that since most of my basses are passive, but I happen to have a sterling and like the musicman sound, cause I dont feel it to be like most new active basses with all the bells and whistles, so I wanted to see if your MM has gotten any use since u bought it?

It's been used on three sessions. That's it.

I want to get the Noordstrand pickup for it to darken the tone.

Otherwise, it's just not very appropriate for any of the records I do. So yeah, that's what's up.

My Wal just isn't that bright, actually. The Stingray is crazy bright, but certainly fun. But if I want it to be useful, I need to darken it up a bit.

I can understand that. All my basses are passive except for the Classic 'Ray I got recently. If you haven't tried flats on your Ray yet, I'd suggest giving them a shot--pretty tasty-sounding.

I'm there with GregC...flats on a 'ray are the jam. I've got a Classic 'Ray with maple board and the thing is sick! I can't wait to throw some flats on it and have the thump and punch.

I've been reborn with flats on MMs!
I love the bright tone they have for some stuff (mostly punk type stuff that needs to cut through and have that sizzle everyone talks about), but I always put my Labellas back on it and love that tone for most of the work I do!
It cuts back on the brightnes and lets the bass speak wgere it sits best, and that's the mids!

though the Nordy move may not be such a bad idea!

If you do it, feel free to let us know!

I'm wrestling with this now on my classic 'ray ....I used the mutes to slightly kill the roundwound zing..kept the bass and treble almost completely off to get more solid mids..it's definitely a learning curve coming from P and J world..but that 'ray is a solid built great feeling and fast playing bass. I do like the tone on the E and A strings a LOT..I feel like it picks up any slightest failure in technique so I like it with some dirt to cover my nadequacies....may try some chromes..just seems like this beast wants to sing brightly..Maybe too brightly..hmmm
