Justin,
I don't imagine you can divulge the secrets of what these last handful of shows will hold, but I am just so amazingly excited to be able to witness it. It's sad that this change is coming, but everyone who has paid even the slightest bit of attention knows that this won't be the last we hear from Trent. I also hardly wait for the next evolution, whatever it may be, and whenever it might come.
I am flying from Seattle to LA for the night to see the show @ Henry Fonda. (I don't think I ever went there when I lived in SoCal)
Being a native, are there any places nearby that I should check out?
See you then, man.

| | | | Fonda is a lovely venue and you'll enjoy that. Places nearby: hmm, well that's in the heart of Hollywood, but within a 1/2 mile there you've got Amoeba records (incredible) and Arclight Cinemas (expensive, but worth it).
This will most certainly not be the last you hear from Trent. He is far too creative to ever slow down.
Best,
Justin

Can't wait! |

| | | | Just go home in Montreal after a very long drive. Bowery was simply mindblowing.
Funny how less than two months ago I posted about NIN being done live and being sad about NIN/JA being over, and yet here we are.
Yesterday was INTENSE. This is easily the best sounding venue I have ever seen NIN play in. NO reverb whatsoever. I've seen Somewhat Damaged 5 times live now, yet it was the first time the silences at the end of each bars were really SILENT : no low rumble reverberating, no crowd noise. Absolute silence. The effect was dead on and incredibly powerful. Funny how little details like this can make huge differences.
The crowd was totally out-of-control, the band felt it, everyone was very much into it. Very intense. Absolutely epic finale with In This Twilight (most probably my favourite live NIN song). We left the venue speechless. Thank you seriously. It was great making eye contact with you several times throughout the show.
Can't wait for yet another long-ass drive to see you with MEW @ Terminal 5. |

| | | | Glad you liked it. It kinda blew my mind, at some points I felt like I was spectating the whole experience. In This Twilight was an emotional song to end with...for all of us.
Yeah the sound in there is fantastic. SUPER, bone-dry. Very loud. Just right.
Thank you for making the trip from MONTREAL, jeeeeeez that's a long trek! See you later in the week.
JMJ

| | | | I can't believe you guys actually played TDS in its entirety yesterday! Wow, wish I could have been there!
Did you guys rehearse in a rush to learn the remaining songs or were they all already mastered during the original rehearsals for NIN/JA? |
08-24-2009, 06:31 AM
| | | | Some of it was a bit of a rush, because the concept was conceived pretty recently. So we busted ass. Most of it we had ready, excluding maybe 3 or 4 songs. But even getting that many ready off, of an album like The Downward Spiral was a mammoth task. We only had one day available to us to rehearse.

| | | | Nice, big thumbs up for the rush! Hopefully some of those new additions will pop up at other shows.
And congrats also for remembering the words to Ruiner... 'The Ruiner knows Phil Spector, he likes wearing sweaters...' Hahaha! |

My wife and I are flying up from Florida for the Chicago shows. We're so excited to hear you played TDS in its entirety, I hope you guys have more cool surprises up your sleeves!

| | | | I can neither confirm or deny that we would do TDS in its entirety ever again, just so you know. I'm afraid I have to temper your expectations a bit. That may have been it, at Webster Hall.
Regardless, we'll do our best to entertain. Surprises aren't necessarily the point of this tour; the real agenda is to simply play quality, relatively long set lists in venues that aren't huge arenas, out of respect to NIN's excellent fans.

| | | Another long drive...
Terminal 5 was yet again full of surprise. Really liked the second encore with Peter Murphy. It kinda felt like watching a bunch of friends jamming their favourite songs together to please themselves, more than a traditional concert... Very nice, fresh and exciting
Ok I'll need some sleep now. Have a nice drive (flight?) to Chicago! |

| | | | Nice one. All I know is: I'm pretty destroyed right now.

| | | | Justin can you shed some light on the upcoming toronto show? will it be as drawn out as these other shows, or will it be a typical 'greatest hits' festival setlist? |
08-27-2009, 02:48 PM
| | | Yeah I would dare ask the same question... Even though in the end it's probably Trent's call, but I really wonder if we'll get a typical win-over-the-crowd set or the same kind of ballsy, hardcore-fan-oriented sets... NIN sold out the Molson Amp 3 times since 2006 : chances are well over half the crowd there will be there for NIN anyway. Fingers crossed for some of the few tracks (Ruiner ) I have yet to see for this last exhausting drive and final NIN show ever for me. |

| | | We haven't had the discussion about Toronto yet. My guess: slightly leaning towards greatest hits with some of the more recently added rarity-type jams peppered in here and there. That doesn't tell you much, which is basically the idea.

Oh well, **** it, I'm buying the tickets right now. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
