Question What bass are you playing on survivalism?

Sign in to disble this ad
On the new survivalism video that was uploaded a few days ago youŽre playing what it seems to be a fender mustang bass... but it has pressision pick ups... so what bass is that exactly? IŽve been looking around the forum and i couldnŽt find the exact model. Sounds AMAZING!

Sorry to answer for him...

It's a custom bass built by Fender's Custom Shop for JMJ. The extensive Bass Player article covered it and I believe it's in the JMJ's Gear thread.

How have you been happy with it?
I see yamaha as this best-buy company, happen to own one myself, but never managed to take myself seriously using their basses. On the other hand the custom shop has made some awesome products for some awesome people!
I would love to hear some input and details on the bass!

Yamaha actually makes excellent instruments of all kinds, and also motorcycles, wet bikes, and boat engines that rock, too. Our sax player has a couple Yamaha saxes he likes as much as his Selmers.

A BB was my first bass, called a BB300. Amazing.

They sound and play so good. I also own a vintage BB1200. Underrated beyond compare.

Best,
JMJ

Ya, the BB conjures up images of when I saw Van Halen for the first time in 1979. Michael Anthony used one for the whole show. Sounded great, too.

not wanting to dissagree (my sister even owns a motorcycle of theirs, and I have a piano in the house), its just that the models they have at the moment dont thrill me, thats all.
My first bass was a yamaha BBG 4, and I love it to death, but I still never managed to get something awesome out of it. Still, I hope to be proven wrong in the long run!

You'd better not let Peter Hook hear you say that...he might beat you up and take it.

The new BB series is unreal. Old school. Lively, sick tone, everything you'd expect. It hasn't come out yet, methinks. The one I play is not production, but rather the last of the prototype development. I helped them out with it.

Peter Hook? One of the main reasons I had one in the first place. Also so many others, including Michael Anthony and Andy Rourke.

Best,
JMJ

+1 on the bb1200 ---mines a early-80s that i got in the beginning of this year to fill my pbass void--- it gets more and more "thats the bass" by me, engineers, etc for recordings and gigs (over a 72 jazz and a new fender cs jazz). sounds good with steels, nickels, flats. picked it up for like $500.. crazy.

sorry to get off the original topic ... just got excited, don't hear too much about old yamahas

Man, I love the sound of that bass, I didn't recognize it as a Yamaha.

This is and continues to be a great run for Nine Inch Nails. I hope Trent comes out with a well engineered and quality Live version of this tour. Basically the shows I've attended have sounded incredible (except for a minor blemish in SD).

JMJ so fits in with this band I wonder why Trent didn't go after him earlier. But you have to give it up for 20 year old Ilan Rubin (drummer). Ok, I'm biased being form SD, but all I can say is W-O-W. This kid played Woodstock at 11??

JMJ: is he insane or what? Keep on rock’n!!!
