Your T Birds.

Hey J,

Forgive me if this has been asked before but have you modded the electronics in your T Birds at all? My 2007 is awesome and I dig it solo but it is a bit to woofy in the mix. I don't want to say undefined but notes are certainly more cloudy compared to my Fenders.

Any suggestions? Any experience with those Mike Lull replacement pickups?

No mods w/ my electronics. I have NOS '70s pickups in mine that I bought in Japan years ago, but otherwise, nothing in the path. My pickups sound dark, but not woofy.

I tried the Mike Lull bass but found it a little too bright for what I was after, but I think it was a really good sound....I think it's worth checking into.

JMJ

I'm in the process of doing the "Nikki Sixx mod" to my Epi bird. I always run all the controls wide open so I'm removing the pots and replacing with an on/off switch. Nothing major, but for me it works.

I'm definately not JMJ but I do have a lot Thunderbirds from various vintages, thru the years there have been quite a few variations in their design. Since the '88 reissue there have been four distinct versions, only one of which bears any resemblance to the '70s, the rest are twin coil humbucking designs.
Here are two post '88 designs that have had the outer plastic casing removed so they could be potted into some NOS '76 covers.

And a close up of a Nikki Sixx MkII that has has Lull pups installed, these are a single coil design, reverse engineered from Gibson's 1960's type, again very different from other vintages, they are a bit brighter and better defined than the stock contemporary ones.
