Augagneur Bergeron bows

Does anybody have any experience with these bows? I'm looking for a new bow and was wondering, is the significance of gold mounted versus silver mounted really worth $900 in the long run? Also, what are your views on bows by Prochownik? I'm looking for a bow that can give me a nice orchestral sound but can also be agile enough to play solo repertoire(Bach, Bottesini etc.), I would be using this bow on orchestral auditions most likely. Thanks for your help.

I've only played one Augagneur Bergeron bow - it was very very nice. I ended up buying a different one, but I like the A-B a lot. I also have a Prochownik Bazin model that I use for orchestral playing. For the price its a great bow and gets a nice big, clear orchestral sound.

Augagneur-Bergeron bow

I have been playing an Augagneur-Bergeron bow for a few years now. I use it for chamber music and occasional solos. IMHO, the bow is especially suited for solowork since it (at least mine) has a fast attack on the strings and is not very heavy. If you listen to the works of Daniel Marillier or Renaud Garcia-Fons, both Augagneur-endorsers, you will certainly acknowledge what I mean. If however you would play mostly orchestral work, you may need a heavier bow.

I owned a Morizot bow, but must admit the Augagneur delivers best, so I sold it. The Augagneur bows are also esthaetically pleasing. Mine has a fine 'elliptoid' form that reminisces of the great André Vigneron of the 'classical French era'. I contacted the guys by phone and they sent me 3 (!!!) bows to try out after which I could send the other two back to them. Purely based on trust, this works fine for me.

Kind regards
