I think it didn't work because I entered a different delivery address from my card address. I'm just gonna get my parents to send it from my home to my term time address when it arrives.

Recieved my upton bow last week (German), unfortunately my teacher tells me it needs to be seen to, because it just won't get tight enough. I don't know if it happened in transit or was just poorly set up, but the hair job is quite poor and it needs fixing. Apparently it will cost £15-20 to fix, which isn't too bad considering how cheap the bow was anyway, but it's a bit of a bummer.

That's not typical at all, get it to us and I'll re-hair it for free. Your not over tensioning the hair are you? Quite possibly something in transit but it would be hard to say what or how....excessive heat?

Did the bow arrive at tension or loose?

Well when i recieved it, it seemed quite tense, despite being pulled out, so I tried loosening it all the way and it's lost all its tension. My teacher pulled it apart again and said it looked like the hairs needed to pulled through again cos they just weren't tightening properly. I can't really send it back to america, i'm just gonna get it seen to here.

Ah, actually an important point is the frog doesn't seem to move as you tighten the bow.

Err ...is anyone else surprised that now it "won't get tight enough" ?

Well my other bow can be loosened quite successfully without going all screwy, it seems to have been set all wrong

Just taken my bow to see a bow repairer who said it needed rehairing, he said it seems to have been badly put together. Now it's gonna cost me £40 to repair...

Now I've picked it up, it plays lovely. But far too much work... I don't recommend getting the Upton sent over. The guy said it hadn't been properly tied together at one end, the frog now sits up from the stick.

I meant simply loosened it all the way. The guy who rehaired it managed to do it to mine just to make a check after he'd rehaired it. The hairs obviously were tied together badly. Anyway I can wholeheartedly recommend The Bow Surgery in SE London for rehairs.

Arghhh will the nightmare ever end? The bow now won't tighten, I'm taking back to the guy who did the rehair he's gonna see what he can do. But this has got to be the biggest fiasco of my musical life. I seem to have got the Upton dud...

It seems the main problem has been the tightening screw was not connected properly to the inside of the bow, but now its been fixed. I don't really think it needed rehairing though the hair job was pretty poor.
