| | freethinker | | Join Date: May 2000 Location: San Francisco, Ca | | | which bow color? i will probably be getting a new glasser x-series bow, but i dont know what color. (yes, i know its rather unimportant all things considered.) i was thinking either black, or tan (to match the bass, and appear more like wood). although, i do like the "look" of the yellow and silver. here are the choices.
i know that color choice comes down to personal taste (or lack thereof). i am really asking if anyone has an opinion of why a particular color should be chosen or avoided. (ie., dont get silver because the glare would be distracting)
thanks

i am a yellow fan | What? A vegan on a motorbike? Shouldn't you have a flat black, fixed-gear city bike covered in stickers instead?
I think the yellow might get old on you, but at least you'll never sit on it by mistake. |

I have to vote for a red bow, but I like red basses too.
Peace,

| | | | Given the effort to get to this point, I'd suggest several colors to use depending on your mood and/or the venue. For example:
Classical = black with white trim
Blues = blue
Red hot jazz = red
etc.

| | freethinker | | Join Date: May 2000 Location: San Francisco, Ca | | | I have found out that my color choices were limited to hair (not bow color). white, black, and s&p.
now i have to figure out which one to use, so i will hijack my own thread...
i am a beginner. i dont have a teacher at this momnet, but i will be taking on one in the next few weeks. i play a laminate bass with spirocores. i will probably never play in an orchestral setting, but everything else is a possibility. i will also be using a german bow.
what are the opinions about a good color hair to start with.
thanks |

| | | | The TBDB Mantra: Get a teacher.
Even if you can't swing the cost full time lessons (and you truly can't swing the expense of NOT taking lessons), get a hold of an experienced player-teacher to help you out choosing equipment and some starting pointers. You can't do it over the Internet -- you need someone right in the room with you. |

| | | | without doubt, you can always get better if you want to. Get a teacher, take a class, contact your local American String Teachers or International Society of Bassists group and ask for a list of teachers. Even a local luthier can give you some good advice about the right bow for you! You have to make the human contact. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
