Bow Mounting

I keep seeing bows that are advertised as silver-mounted or gold mounted. These bows tend to be ridiculously expensive. What does this mean and is there any advantage to it?

By mountings they mean fittings like the Ring on the Frog and the Screw. Many Bow Screws are Split with Ebony in the center and some Bows even have a Silver tip.

The fittings are rated from Nickle Silver (aka German Silver), Pure Silver (Sterling Silver) and Gold (maybe 14-18karat?). Gold fittings are rare on Bass bows but not as rare on Exhibition grade Violin thru Cello Bows. I have only seen a few Gold mounted Bass bows in my life.

Here is a good example of the finer grade of Silver with Silver Tip as well; http://www.kensmithbasses.com/Double.../Bultitude.htm
