Bow rehair Chicago

Has anybody here used String Project in Palatine, IL?

They're down the street from me and I thought I'd see if there were any experiences with them here on TB before I tried them out. There seem to be some very reputable bow specialists in the Chicago area, and I prefer quality over convenience. However, if this shop has a good reputation, why would I go all the way to the city?

So what's the word?

I've used A440 Violins and have been very happy with their work

I've also used a440 and Ward Hansen in the Fine Arts Building downtown. Both do a good job. The guy at a440 put black hair on my Bob G. brazilwwod and, with the new hair, it's a decent bow. Ward rehairded my Prochownik and did a nice job.

I had my bow rehaired by Mark Sonksen. He did a good job. Like Bass Barrister, I had a Bob G Brazilwood bow and had Mark rehair it to black hair. I dig it.

I had my endpin replaced by A440-with how quickly they got me in, changed the pin, and got me out-I would NOT hesitate to use them. It took less than hour & they got me in with a day or two notice. They get very high customer service marks from me. I will more than likely go to them for the rest of my DB related repairs.

Does Mark do his own rehair work? I seem to recall that he sends it out somewhere downtown although I know he's had some bow-maker/repair training. It shouldn't matter as I'm sure he would not anyone substandard. I just talked to him yesterday before I saw this ... would have asked him.

BTW: for the OP, I'm Michele Fiore up in Wheeling will also handle a rehair. We have many good options here.

I believe he does it in-house...he didn't say otherwise. This was in I think 2006 or 2007-I don't remember which.

does a great job and has you in and out within an 30-60 mins. He's in the fine arts building. Her's a link to his website.

For the record, I got my bow rehaired at The String Project in Palatine. I am not much of a judge on the quality of bows and rehairs, but mine seems fine. They did the job in one day so that was nice.

Sorry to get to this thread late, but the best bow rehairs I got while in Chicago was this Japanese couple in Evanston. The guy's name is Mitsugu. http://www.collegnoevanston.com/index.html
Give him a try next time!

I did give him a call, but when it came down to it, driving down the street trumped driving downtown.
