Question

I am in an area remote from any decent Bow Rehairers can anyone give me any tips on doing my own rehairing. I have heard it's tricky but i am keen to give it a go. I can get hold of hair no problems.

Any help Appreciated.

I believe there was a video available from LEMUR music on bow rehairing. http://www.lemur-music.com

I don't see how do-it-yourself bow rehairing can pay off. The cost of learning, tools, hair will be very near the cost of paying an expert to do it. The bassists in the orchestras in your major cities get it done somewhere. Call the orchestras and ask for referrals. I've done this when travelling, and they're always very helpful.

I spoke to a violinist from Australia last night. He very strongly endorses the work of a bow maker in Sydney. His name (which I am spelling phonetically)is Harry Vatiliotis. He told me his work is excellent and not expensive. You should be able to track him down. Also, it is very common to send your bow away for work. My bowmaker gets bows from all over the USA.
