| | | | you need rosin -- lots of it -- both on the string and on the bow hair. lots of it.
otherwise, getting in the string is a technical exercise. |

Does this happen on all the strings? What rosin are you using? New/old bow? New/old hair? |

Do you know how old the hair is? Is any of it breaking/broken? How much tension is on the hair, and how much can you tighten it?
If it were new hair, I'd say put a layer of Pop's on it to lay a nice sticky foundation. That, or powdered rosin. I could be way off, but even with old strings I would expect some sort of response to bowing. |

yea, i think so. I've used the oldest bowhair and the oldest, crappiest strings, but you can still carve a lane if you hit it up right. |

| | | | the joint pressure thing may be an issue. you def need to apply enough pressure, but bow speed is also a factor. i'm no med expert, but i can only advise not hurting yourself! seems obvious, but just for the record. So, work on your long tones. |

If so it's possible that German might help.

When that happens you have to play on it a bit, or a couple swipes more rosin can fix it. Otherwise, you should try getting the bow re-haired. |

He is 15, enjoys motorcycles as a hobby, has a Juzek and a few Rickenbackers laying around the house, and can't get a bowed sound. Hmmm... | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
