Bow sock

Does anybody use anything like this?

Seems like a good idea to me. I have a double bow case that is bulky and barely fits in the pocket of my bass bag. It seems like overkill and just adds to the weight I have to carry. Something like this seems cool. I'm not sure if it has any "stuffing" in it or not how hard it might be to replicate.

I know of a few people in germany who I have seen use them and they seem to work well... I havent seen anyone here in the US with one. I bet its easy to make one.

It looks like the thing that comes with a lot of bass covers. I have a couple-one from a Mooradian and one from a Bobelock. Never thought of putting one in the bridge as pictured. Kurt, if you want one of mine, PM or Email and we can meet.

I have one that I purchased from George Vance. It is light weight and is fastened behind the neck of the bass with velcro - like a baby's bib. The sock itself provides minimal protection and would not be suitable by clutzy me for transport alone. It is made of two layers of cloth. (Think of a lightweight jacket.) The real protection comes from its location under your fingerboard, bridge arch and tailpiece. And with the bass case covering everything, it provides safe transport.

It is different than the Moridian style cases that slip into the bass cover pocket. As I recall, the one I had had a much tougher, stiffer covering and there was a piece of fiberboard or something along one side.

When I first got the sock, I didn't secure the velcro properly and the bow in sock dropped to the floor.

No damage - but that made me appreciate the phrase "when used properly . . . "

While the sock setup is light, interesting looking, I'm considering a bow case.

OK so it doesn't sound like there's any padding of any sort inside the cloth.

There is some padding in the thickness of the material. The bass socks were made by the wife of the owner of Bass Works in Australia. You might check out thier website.

hey thanks so much for the offer! but I usually carry arround a hard case for the bows. Just a bit safer. The guy from germany tied it arround the neck of the bass and also arround the tailpiece (he had ties on the top and bottom) and I thought that it was a smart idea.

I made my own, it was easy. When I take a bow with me (not often, I admit) this is how I transport it. Its too easy to leave a bow in a bags bow pocket and have some kid sit on the bass bag in the corner and ... snap

These look like a good idea. My bow case is heavy and as an extra "outboard" accessory it is easy to leave behind inadvertently. So do they make pin stripes or argyles?

I use one of those thingys that comes with the bass case. I sewed on a velchro strap to keep it in place. The bow is perfectly safe there, unless the bass gets smashed

You want to make sure it is loose enough not to put any torque (or any other kind of force) on the bow when it fits through the bridge feet. I find it lightens the load a lot.

i use a "bass sock" like this since 1 month and i really love it! not only is it easier (especially when you put your bass somewhere without cover), lighter, not destroying your basscase, but also more safe. This is covered well under your fingerboard in the bag so no can touch it. When the bow is in the bowcase it's right there in the front of your bass and can be taken by someone easily.
Also is it a lot cheaper (+-free) But i wouldn't buy this one, do it your self or ask your mother

I have a double one from George, and use it to carry about the bows if transporting the bass in the car. One less thing to forget at the lessons. The patterns on the sock are really cool too.I do use a hard case when I fly. Always get asked at security if it's a pool cue.
